The Aftertaste Podcast • Ep. 28

Can Our Phoenix Thai Restaurants Stop Beefing?

Maddy debuts her short bob era right before flying to Italy, while Priscilla recounts a chaotic family trip to Walmart featuring locked cabinets and teenage scooter drama. Plus, Maddy shares the sweet first-date origin story of Dottie the Porch Goose.

Appetizer: The Bob Era, Walmart Adventures & Dottie the Goose

Maddy steps into her blunt bob era, embracing healthy natural curls over bleach damage and extensions. Meanwhile, Priscilla breaks down an unhinged Walmart run dealing with locked-up essentials and joyriding teens crashing mobility carts. To balance the chaos, Maddy introduces Dottie the Porch Goose—a seasonal porch mascot inspired by a memorable LA first date.

Feed the Group Chat: Glai Baan vs. Lom Wong & LA Bites

Phoenix's dining scene is divided as Michelin-recognized Thai heavyweights Glai Baan and Lom Wong feud publicly on Instagram over recipe modifications, scratch kitchen claims, and culinary representation. The girls weigh in on the drama as dedicated regulars who simply want both Valley staples to thrive.

Plus, Maddy recaps highlights from an LA food crawl:

  • Erewhon: Splurging on the viral Hailey Bieber smoothie and a $75 hot-bar spread.

  • Izakaya Osen: Melty Toro paired with fresh Santa Barbara uni and caviar.

  • Le Coupé: Hot honey fried chicken with warm, salted chocolate chip cookies.

  • Steak 44 (Phoenix): Caviar service, warm vanilla butter cake, and an unfortunate overcooked sea bass.

Whine & Dine: Tip Math & Vacation Envy

Maddy vents about high-end restaurants dropping pre-calculated tip percentages, leaving diners stranded with awkward phone calculator math. Priscilla counters with pure end-of-summer FOMO as everyone flees the 110-degree Arizona heat for Europe and New York.

Spill the Matcha: Aaron Rodgers, SLOMW Quits & Emmy Fashion

The pop culture rundown delivers plenty of hot takes:

  • Aaron Rodgers & Shailene Woodley: Rodgers gets dragged online after claiming on a podcast that nobody knew Woodley before they dated.

  • Mikayla Matthews Exits SLOMW: Mikayla officially walks away from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, refusing to profit from toxic enabling behavior.

  • Ed Sheeran’s Apolitical Tour Drama: Backlash erupts after Macklemore is pulled from stadium dates over a pro-Palestine statement, prompting tour mates to drop out in solidarity.

  • The Emmy Awards: Red carpet hits and misses, from Shailene Woodley’s untailored look to Florence Pugh's fairytale silhouette.

Palate Cleanser: Put It in the Group Chat

The girls wrap up with rapid-fire communication triage, deciding if awkward scenarios deserve an immediate call, a frantic voice note, a calm text, or total silence. Topics include spotting a friend's partner on a dating app, liking an archival 2009 photo, and dates who don't believe in tipping.

Episode 28
The Aftertaste. [music] I'll have what she's spilling. The podcast for foodies and pop culture girly swirlies. [music] We're here to yap with their mouth full of caviar about what we're eating, obsessing over, and what's living rentree in our heads long after the plates have cleared. [music] From local bites and unhinged hot takes to friendships, gossip, and internet culture. These are the conversations that linger even after the last bite. Come hungry and ready for dessert. Happy hump day munch day. Taste Buddies, you remember when I [ __ ] that up last week? It was really cute, though. I know, but we didn't hear it. Um, how was your weekend? How are you? >> Good. I had a really good weekend. Um, I did cut my hair too short. >> I like it. >> You're really sweet. It's not my hair stylist's fault. She was like, "Are you sure?" And like I've been trying to just get the rest of the blonde off. >> Um, so it is like the thickest and like >> and like it will grow. >> It is really thick. Yeah. And it feels so good and healthy. And I mean, I think it will grow really fast because it's been growing fast, but I really did like that length here. So, but now it'll be more even and less thin. Um, I just I'm also just figuring out like styling. I'm on like bob talk, but it's just different with like different cuts and faces and so I'm trying to figure it out. I got a heated brush, so we'll see. >> I told you halfbacks are so cute. >> Yeah, like a bow. You like a bow. So >> yeah, >> you just have to get like shorter ones so they don't go past your like neckline. Now >> I know I just got like mini pigtail things too, but shout out to all the bob girls on TikTok because they're making me feel better about options. I know it is a labor of love to like do your hair. I did a little 15minute curler action today and um but like you ever skip your shower cuz you don't want to dry your hair. Oh yeah. Well though, I will say that's that's the amazing thing about the bob. I mean, it's quick compared to like when I had extensions and it was like >> Well, I guess it's different for you because you're maybe like a medium curl, but some girls who are like the extra curl who have to like do their hair every single time they get out. >> Well, no, I actually am not a medium curl. >> Oh, you're a big curl girl. >> I'm super curl, but especially because now that I'm not bleaching, it's growing in way curlier. >> You should Well, not the length, but you should wear your hair curly and like done with product. >> I know. I kind of want to see what it looks like, but I think at this length it's going to be a little >> Have you ever like styled it in the last like 5 years curly? >> No. Well, and it it hasn't been cuz the bleach like stripped out the curl. So, I am curious. We'll see. Maybe I'll do something in Italy, which by the way, guys, I leave to Italy tonight. >> Yeah, she's leaving me. We're going to be on for the next three weeks or four weeks. >> Three. Three. We're going to be remote. Um, what did I do this weekend? I didn't like, you know, it's so bad sometimes I don't even remember. Like I just on Saturday diabolical I told you at the conference. >> Oh my gosh. Working on a Saturday. It just really is stuff. I'm sorry. >> Yeah. And like more people came and joined, which was nice for the support, but then like I couldn't even Kindle read, you know? >> Are you still in your Sarah Journey? >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. because I'm I'm just I'm slowly getting out of it. Like I mean slowly getting at it because I just know that I guess I misjudged and the book comes out next month but this month. >> Oh, but then this month is Threshing Day like a Fourth Wing prequel. >> Yeah, I did hear that. >> Yeah. So, um but we did go to Walmart on Sunday as a family. [laughter] >> So, like we never go to Walmart like as a family ever actually. I like get delivery from there and like my husband's picked up stuff, but like we just don't proactively do like Walmart trips. We do Target trips and so they purposely like make it terrible in there. Like we were in the the hygiene section like the uh toothpaste and stuff and like the way everything is like so cluttered and unlabeled. It is so frustrating. Oh my gosh. No, I was just in that section. And I was this weekend getting like my last minute travel stuff for anything I didn't have. And I was like, and I feel like the aisles are thin enough that you can only fit one cart. And then also, why is every worker shelving stuff on Sunday? You would think that's a prime time. You would think you would do that during lower times. Yeah. And like I wanted to go to Walmart because like a lot of people post on Instagram like what in the anthropology is happening at Walmart. Um I don't know. Oh, I didn't think I like I found some stuff, but I feel like maybe I don't have a good Walmart. Like they found like a lot more. I did get these plastic planters that I'm going to actually make a vase, but they're like they look like stone and they were like two bucks each. So, I thought that was a steal. But, so we went So, we looked at TVs. Oh my god, guess how much a 75 in TV is? 300 bucks. I mean, 400, but still. Like, it is cheaper to buy a TV than it is to go to Disney. Oh man, [laughter] do you remember when like getting a big TV was like a mortgage? >> I had a 32 in the size of people's monitors in college and I think that was like $400. Now they're like it's $89. Amazing. Yeah. So when we were in there like halfway through the grocery, my we were on the way to go get milk and I was like, "Oh [ __ ] I forgot to get a pregnancy test." Because I like to like just have pregnancy tests in my drawers. I'm a girl. I think all girls just have like pregnancy pregnancy tests in their drawers. Yeah. >> You don't? I feel like my friends do. >> No, I have an IUD and >> Okay. Well, if you're I always had one even when I had an IUD. It's just like a security blanket. I feel like I don't travel with it, but like it's in the drawer tucked in. But they also make you feel criminal there. [laughter] >> Oh, yeah. They're locked up. >> Yeah. So, I'm walking over there and I'm like cutting through and then the first thing that gets through my mind right before I get to the area is I don't have like a cart or anything with me. So, I have to carry this task I already planned back to my family across the entire like grocery store [laughter] and then when you get there it's all locked up with the condoms and you have to buzz for somebody to come and I'm standing there and then a teenage boy had to come help me. It really is like the worst stuff they lock up, too. Like formula and condoms. I'm like, you guys got rid of Roie Wade and you're locking up condoms and formula. That's crazy. Well, like maybe if you just like spend an extra $20,000 on making your aisles cuter, people wouldn't feel like the environment is to steal. Like I kind of want to steal in there just because of like what's going on. [laughter] >> I'm stressed. [gasps] It's just like there's just different people out at Walmart. Oh, wait. Speaking of stealing, so I'm very excited because I got a new porch goose and her name is Die. >> Okay, I did see her. [laughter] >> And she has outfits for every season. And the reason I got her is because I went on the best first date ever, which like if I'm talking about a date on the podcast, I haven't been on a date in months. And if I'm talking about a date on the podcast, it was the best first date ever. She's a taste buddy. Hi. [laughter] Oh my god, guys. Using our platform. This is me flirting. [laughter] And she had one and I was obsessed. I thought it was the cutest thing ever. And so it it's already brought so much joy. Like I have a little boy across the way who loves her and I see him on my ring camera talking to her and then the dogs love her. They get stressed and then they go sniff her and then they love her and Canoli did. Boy, I'm lost. Your first date. How'd you get dirty? I'm confused right now. Where's the linkage before you started? She had she had a porch goose at her house and I was like, "That's the cutest [ __ ] thing I've ever seen. I need one." >> I was like, "Tell me a how you linked the flirting in." [laughter] >> She said, "I just really wanted to wink the camera." >> I know. I'm really bad at winking, too. >> No, [laughter] I'm the worst. >> That's That's pretty good. Like, >> you have to open your mouth to get like that the eye. >> Yeah, cuz if I don't, it's like literally a twitch. I don't know if it's like the Botox, too. After I got braces, I can't whistle either. I feel like my teeth like closed in right here and I couldn't get the air through. >> Okay. Well, we're not good at whistling. [laughter] >> Um, well, what I was going to say about this one more thing at Walmart was that there's these kids and we were buying our planters and this guy was in like the electric scooter and my son's like, "What's that?" And then he [ __ ] crashes into like the side like where there's stuff on. What's that called? Shelves. And then he's like, "Help me." to his friend. And his friend's ding laughing. They're dying laughing. And in my head I'm like, "I really don't want to be an [ __ ] but I don't even think you're handicapped." >> Yeah. And then we saw him in the electric area again there. And then later he was standing like an hour later and I was like, "You you little bitch." [laughter] Maybe his pods or something. giving him the benefit of the doubt. >> No, he can't drive that thing. So, [laughter] >> I I wouldn't be able to either. Um, wait, the whole reason I even brought up the Portuguese though is one of my friends was so stressed out about it and is like that goose is going to get stolen. Like, you need and I made it I put it in a little Hufflepuff outfit with like a spew pin and I'm like, if the goose gets stolen, like if someone's going to like steal a goose in front of a Ring camera, like they need Dia more than me. I hope they don't. and I love her, but like who's stealing geese? Just so you know, the Ring camera is not detering. [laughter] If you were like, "That was your No, that's not deteriorating." That's true. Actually, one time I sent like a little baby book to my mom's house because she was going to be babysitting my baby niece and somebody stole it and they put a blanket over their head to steal it. And I was like, I hope they're really disappointed when they open that. The worst is when you like see it online where they're like kicking and like sitting back and you're like you're an idiot. [laughter] Um, anything else you want to add before we go and we feed the group chat? >> No, I think that's it. >> All righty. Do you want to get to the drama first or do you want to get to the good? >> Oh, okay. Yeah, please. We have a little bit of matcha in feed the group chat. Can you tell everybody cuz you were the one who educated me on this. Okay. But like posts are deleted, so I'm going to do my best, but you have to help fill in the blanks. Okay, so two of our beloved Thai restaurants in town are beefing. Glybon and Loml Wong. Glybon is kind of like the OGs, I would say. They um they have like a smaller one. They were just on the Michelin Guide. Wait, which one's higher? Michelin Guide or Bib Gorman? Bib Gormand. >> I think Bib. >> Okay, so they're on Glibbon's on the guide and Lwan got the bib, but then they also got some other award, I think, for Michelin. And their food is really good, but they also are like contrastingly different. I feel like Glybon more goes to like the Thai street food and L Wong more goes towards like the villages of Thailand and they're both pretty well known in town but um something there's like some background beef and they hate each other and now it's very clear and out there and L long posted recently which I reposted I didn't think it was actually a big deal they posted like you know like people have come in they've left some reviews and all this But we want to let you know like we are authentic to who we are. So like we're not going to trim like the extra like fat off the pork. We're not going to like your food is going to come as they go. Which I've gone there and they present it that way too. Yeah. >> Your food is going to come your go. Your mango salad might come later, but like these are like truly like authentic to us. And we're not going to switch out your protein for your liking. Meaning they probably had like a lot of like pork forward dishes and they weren't going to switch it for chicken. And they do have a lot of pork foreign dishes. >> Yeah. And I think that's But like in Thailand, I feel like pork is common. And so I didn't really find it offensive. Did you the first time you ever read it? >> No. I was like, "Good for them for sticking to their guns." And I was like, "Dude, I'll wait forever for that [ __ ] mango salad. It's delicious." And I think that there's something about like if you're really trying to be authentic to yourself and saying that like hey we are this is like how we're going to serve it. I like that. Yeah. They're just like this is me. Take it or leave it and you don't have to. Yeah. You can go elsewhere. Yeah. Well that pose ruffled Glybon's feathers. Glibbon kind of had a little bit of a temper tantrum [laughter] and did three posts. Not one but three posts. And what's crazy about the whole situation is I like love Glybon to their core. Like I really do. But something that's really irritating about Glon is they do use their like personal Instagram for their personal stuff. Like when they go on vacation sometimes they post the food that they eat there and it's confusing because you're a restaurant. So it's like I'm at your restaurant Instagram to look at your restaurant food. Please don't treat it as your blog post. Um, so she posted like, "Did you see them all?" like, okay, first it was like this carousel and it was like this store basically how she's annoyed because he's like the owner of the other restaurant is basically like speaking for the Thai people and it's like you're not Tai and saying things like there's been recent you know people are saying that they're a scratch kitchen and they're doing all this coconut making their coconut um milk from scratch but like we've we've known people who worked at the restaurant and like that's not in fact doing that and we've actually seen pictures of their invoices which is like oh my god like I would never say that I've seen pictures of somebody's invoices. Um you know it's okay but just be honest about that. Then she follows it with a bunch of different carousels of chat cartoons and it's like canned coconut milk bad, canned coconut milk good. And then it's like a direct dig at the the like the white owner because it was like him at a concert while people were working. And >> I missed this part. >> Yeah. And it was like or like him with media like making the coconut milk and it was like jabbed. [laughter] And then there was another one that was a flower and then there was another one that she posted. So it was like three and it was just like just be honest what you are. But what it really irritates me is that like you're saying like tie this and tie that and it's like just cuz you mar her main statement is just cuz you marry someone that's tie doesn't make you tie and we don't want you speaking for us. And I was like oh damn. So then what um they started what um Long started doing. So anyway, she deletes that post the next day and then she changes one that's with the flower. She changes the caption completely and says, "Thank you guys for listening to me." And I'm telling you, Phoenix was in a frenzy. I got so many texts already that night. And so Long Wong has since then just posted rebuttals of like, "This is what we eat in my mom's village." Oh, >> and these are meals at my mom's village. And then she's signing it with like the the wife. So that's the drums. >> Wow. I mean, on a marketing standpoint, there's a lot of attention between the two restaurants. However, um I have you seen any reception to what people have thought about it? I mean, cuz the fact that she deleted it. Um I saw Okay, so there was like there's this really famous like food photographer who's not I used to I followed him, but he's not like he posted like a long time ago. He's not doing like covering Phoenix anymore. he's like really mean about influencers and I guess like one of the pictures was a mimic of that and he reposted that and was like, "Oh, come on. Um, I don't have that much hair." And then there was another like Phoenix influencer who I'll tell you their name later, but he commented and like pressed and they kind of got into in the comments, but I feel like a people are siding with Clybon. Okay. Well, people are just like, "I love you, Glybon." All this stuff. I feel like it's more loyalist versus loyalist. >> Yeah. >> Um for me, I'm still going to eat at both. >> I was going to say I love both. >> And it made me actually sad that one of them behaved that way. >> Yeah. I want I want them all to get along. like the girl. >> It just looks like bad when you just have like that Michelin star stuff happen and then two weeks later this and I will say she did comment and say like I couldn't stay quiet anymore because they like embarrassed a customer uh for a review and I was like I don't know. I feel like what they said was very like good straightforward into who they were. I don't think they embarrassed them. I think they were just like this is who we are. I I agree too. And I also think sometimes people write ridiculous reviews. People are using [ __ ] Chachi BT to write reviews now. Guys, there's certain things you don't need to use Chachi BT for. This is one of them. Well, it's like me. If I were to go eat at an African restaurant, right, I'm not going to write a review when I leave. Whether or not maybe if I like it, but if I didn't like it, cuz I don't know. I don't have a lot of African food. I wouldn't say like they did this, they did that because I don't know what the cultural like appropriate for the food. Just because I don't like it, I'm not going to skade somebody's livelihood over it. I write a review over something like I knew. Yeah. In general, I'm just I'm not going to write a negative review in a small business unless they were like kick me out for being gay or something like you know. [snorts] >> Oh, there was something. Oh, did you see like the coffee shop who wouldn't let the prolifers meet there? >> Okay. No, but love that. >> Yeah. He was like, [clears throat] "We've done a lot of work for the ballot." Okay. Um, do you want to talk about the other yummy food that you've had? >> Yeah. Okay. Well, so speaking of this date, I give her so much credit because she lives in the LA area. And let me be a cliche tourist cuz I [ __ ] love me some Arowan. We don't have Arowan. I don't care if it makes me basic. I don't care how much I'm spending there. I love the smoothie. I don't know if it's the marketing. I love the hot bar. And we got chicken tendies and buffalo cauliflower and mac and cheese and a little salad and a smoothie and a juice and it was [ __ ] delicious. You going to drop the price? >> $75 for listed again? >> Um like three chicken tenders, a like little side of mac and a little side of buffalo cauliflower, a smoothie and a juice and a side salad. >> Okay, first of all, see the first time she said it, she made it sound like she got so much and then now she's like three nuggets. [laughter] Really? Well, I'm like I'm like, "Okay." I'm like, "Let me be transparent." But it was delicious. And that didn't include chip. I also chipped, obviously. >> Um, you got the Haley Bab smoothie. >> Yeah. Was it nice and refreshing? It >> was so good. I love the like whatever they do to make it like marshmallowy, but like not. Um, but we kind of like I didn't go in with the plan cuz I kind of wanted to look at all the smoothies and I just like panicked and we were like, "Everyone likes that one. Let's try that one." >> Mhm. Um, but it was so good. And then for dinner, we went to this place. It was called um Isakaya Osen. And it was like super calm, but when we left, it was super busy, but it was like pretty lighting. All the food was so good. We got these like giant pieces of Toro with Santa Barbara Oonie. And they told us that they got it that morning and it had caviar. >> Her voice is like that cuz I'm pouting, guys. That's why you, if you're not watching, I'm literally pouting over here. >> As I ordered it, I was like, um, and like we had like a basic yellowtail scallion roll and another yummy roll and everything was so good. >> Yeah, I love sushi. Actually, we got some takeout the other day and it was perfect. I got ever like a little um asparagus avocado roll and it's just so cute to see like toddlers using cheaters. >> So cute. >> Um, okay. Wait. And then the last thing is she took me to get her favorite chocolate chip cookies nearby. >> Where? >> Um Oh my gosh. Okay, I have to get the exact place. It's But it was I forgot to write it down. It's called like hot honey chicken or something. It's like a chicken spot. I'll include the info. Um and then they like we waited and they gave us like fresh baked salt on top and then we went back to her place, got ice cream, brownies from this like small batch place that she loves. And then she got my favorite peanut butter from Whole Foods. And we made sundaes. >> What's your favorite peanut butter? >> It's from Whole Foods, like the fresh ground honey roasted. >> I I'm due for some um peanut butter. Actually, I'm in the market. [laughter] >> Maybe I'll stop by. Is it like $10 to get a jar of it? >> I mean, everything's so expensive now. Like I don't even It's >> I think the other one that I love, Justin's with honey, is like $10 now, but you can get it like as much as you want. It is >> for the big one. >> Oh, interesting. Well, I'm really jelly of all the food that you ate. The picture looked really good. Um, I want to go back there and eat. And then next time we're going to go, we're going to have raw octopus. That's what we talked about. I want to go to LA and have raw octopus so badly. >> Um, oh, we also broke your cherry and we went to steak 44. >> Oh yeah. Oh my gosh, that feels Why does that feel so long ago? Yeah, I actually chose to forget it because I just got hammered at the dinner. But do you want to talk about your highlights? >> Okay, but Priscilla hammered at dinner. Everybody we all agreed is like a kitten, like a drunk kitten. Just like the most fun, adorable. I told Eric that like I don't even care that I got drunk or anything because I was like with my safe friends. I had a great time and I had really good food. So, like there was nothing to like be embarrassed about except for having my mom drive me into my car the next day. At least you didn't drive. [laughter] Um, okay. So, my highlights I really like you you made it mandatory. The corn creme brulee delicious. My steak was great. I I'll let you. Um, and then Oh, the caviar was lovely. Yeah, but what are they overdo? Yeah, that Well, I thought we were on highlights. Um the the low the sea bass was tough stuff. It was so overcooked and I was shookth. I was like, "Oh my god, what are we at?" Like Eddie's. Yeah. >> Like what? No, it was. And like a place like that, they're really known for their Chile and Sea Bass. So I was pretty shocked there. Um Oh, the bacon was good. Yeah, it that's a lot, but it was good cuz it came out like on that thing. >> Yeah. I was like, whoa. Well, and it's just like it it eats like a steak itself. >> It's very thick cut bacon, but caviar. Delicious. >> Delicious. And I love how like the side that we were like on the side that really liked the caviar. The other side didn't really care that much, which was like [laughter] when people were like, "More caviar for you." >> Sure. >> I did kind of want the cone though instead. [laughter] >> Next time. Um, anything else you want to feed the group chat with? >> I really liked their desserts. Like, they were all really good. And those are three desserts I would not order. Well, I'd order >> three. What did we get? >> Yeah. Yeah. I don't know if you remember, but there was three. I was like, I remember two that we got. >> There was key lime pie. There was the the chocolate one wasn't my favorite. It was like chocolate marshmallow. So, that was like a lot. Um, and then there was that hot >> Yeah, that [ __ ] was good. >> So, that's their version of like a buttercake. It's like the warm vanilla cake. They couldn't call it butter cake anymore because the original person that owns Mastros left and started this company. Steak 44, Dominics, um what's the third one? Ocean 44. And just so you guys know, if you're out of state that it's all called Steak 48 because we're the 48th state. So like they're all, you know, we're the trailblazers in the steak 44ers. But um >> I definitely like it better than Mastros. >> Oh yeah, it's like a whole notch better. Like if someone's like pick one, I would only go to city hall if I felt like it was a good day to watch the Hookers because they have a great room for that. But [laughter] um Yeah. No, that warm vanilla butter cake. They also have like you've seen it at the other one, the bees. >> Oh yeah, I'm picky though with beignetes. >> Yeah. Yeah, those those are a hit there. But yeah, love the dessert. They also have, which I probably will never order again cuz it was so extreme, but like a fried banana split. That's a lot. It would Yeah, it was pretty extreme. [snorts] Um, okay. The After Taste podcast is brought to you by Amara and Associates. Can we just say finding professionals you actually like is rare? Oh my gosh, it's actually been making me so upset. Um, okay. I didn't I don't want to do the math on the tip. And you guys can roast me all you want, but I I'm not good at math. I've just like left it. I've like just given up. your your brain should like just calculate easy like if you see it say 45 what do you think of >> I don't you just move the decimal point over you times it by two or you >> no and then but then you have to add it and like I just give me the little percents like I'll I'll get I'll tip you more honestly if she does because we were at catch which is so expensive And she's like, "How much are you tipping?" And I was like, "Oh, well, like I tipped a little bit more cuz like I always do." And she's like, "Oh, okay." And then she like was going off of like the higher tip percentage, but it was pre-written. And the higher tip percentage that she was going off of was of the full total, and me and Maddie like had split it in half, which was a very expensive meal. And she was like, "Oh my god, how many times have I done this?" That's true. which is and for a girl who's on a budget. [laughter] This is pretty bad. >> I just I just like again on my date I just felt so embarrassed as I'm like trying to tip with my [ __ ] phone calculator. I'm like okay. >> Do you know how to do you want to know what you're supposed to do? >> I know. >> No, no, no. On your on your calculator, what you do is you say times by 1.2 and it'll do all the math for you. >> Okay. >> Does that make sense? So you just like it says 45. You say times 1.2 and it does all the math for you and makes it 60 or it's not 60, it's 53 the total. So [laughter] yeah, but anyway, I just feel like if you don't have I feel like a lot of nicer places are getting rid of it and I'm like, can you just keep it? Like you have all the other [ __ ] on the receipt. I just don't want to do the math. But then I am embarrassed because so I [snorts] was watching this whole series about the literacy crisis in America and I was like oh thank god like I know how to read and comprehend things. But then she was talking about how part of like how we observe literacy as a country is like with math and knowing percents and [ __ ] I was like I always I found out that like why I test so much well I always knew this but I test really high at math and I test average and reading is because every time it was reading I'd get so much anxiety and I'd like read the I'd start reading the middle and then I get so distracted and I get anxious that I was taking too long and then I start skimming and my brain gets all crazy. But, you know, now that I'm on my meds, I'd love another standardized test to see where I'm at. >> Well, I think that's with me with math. And I like literally think I have to calculate, but I like to go get it tested and it's like hundreds of dollars. So, I'm like, >> for what? To say that you have it. >> No, just to know. >> No, I know. I know. I'm just saying, but like at the ripe age of like your age. >> No, exactly. There's no reason. And so, I was like, okay, well, I'm not going to pay for that. If it was free, I would do it just cuz I'm nosy. Oh, by the way, I was with some people that have listened to our podcast today and they were and they were like talking about Joe and I was like he was like kind of our producer because like he only shows up half the time and then they were like giving him props. They're like, "Yeah, but I've listened to some of the episodes with Joe and it's so funny." >> We're funny too. >> Um I said that, you know, we did have a whole episode on his midlife crisis and they're like, "He's not midlife." And I'm like actually for like a white male he is mid. [laughter] I was like you don't think you're not going to live till 100 especially in this. [laughter] So that's all like what do you think the average age a man lives till 75? Let's Google it. I'm going to say actually I'm going to say 82 cuz Robert Dairo is [ __ ] just never dying. Well, rich people is like another >> average age of white man 75 through 76. So, he is pretty midlife. [laughter] Well, he's not like in half, but yeah. >> What's your wine? >> Um, okay. Mine's too sad. Everybody's going on vacation but me. [laughter] Like, Maddie is going for four weeks and like Joe is prepping for New York. producer Joe's going to New York. Everybody has like vacations planned and I'm I'm I'm tapped out. A >> I wish you were coming. >> I know. And I just like if anybody wants to invite me on a trip, I'm in. I've been like really looking actually I really want somebody to sponsor us to go to their hotel and use their space so we can podcast there, too. Um but yeah, no, I'm just like really sad. I just want to be on vacation with everybody. >> Oh my gosh. No, I know. >> And that's my wine is that everybody's life is having is having a little bit more fun than me. >> That's a valid wine. Especially I feel like in summer everyone is just on Instagram and everyone's like all over the place and showing all the things they're doing. And so then when you're like off that high and you're not. And then fall people start popping off. It's like what the heck? >> Yeah. And the summer was a cute ride. Like me and you went on a little mini thing. I went to New York, but like um want to go somewhere pretty Oh, actually, can you I I don't know where this would fall, so it's just going to fall right now. Can you recap? Did you see any of the ocean when you were in California? >> Oh, no, I didn't. >> Did your family say anything about it? >> Mm-m. No, I even talked about >> Okay. No, actually, I talked about it with my date a little bit. I think it's more north. >> Did you see like Laguna Beach? Like the whole shore is like effed up. Oh, no. You should really look at it. It's crazy. Yeah, I'm shocked. Okay. Well, maybe it's just us Arizonans that care. [laughter] Okay. You ready to spill the matcha? Cuz we do have some fun. >> So much matcha. Yes, please. >> Okay. This one's my favorite topic. >> I think me, too. >> Okay. Shayen Wood and Aaron Rogers. Woodley. I thought Shayen Wood. Shay Woodley. Oh. Woodley. Okay. Okay. You tell the story. Oh my gosh. Okay. So, Notorious has been and loser for a while, Aaron Rogers, who hasn't done anything exceptional in a long time. >> Wait, backstory. They, just so you guys know, she's going to get into the pod part, but Shayen Woodley and Aaron Rogers had this random fling. They dated and then they broke up. >> They were engaged. >> No. No. But then they got back together and he proposed and everybody was just >> It was weird. They were in love. She also h has somebody who has like the craziest character growth because like 10 years ago she was like a completely big tree hugger activist who used to forge for her own water in springs. So her marrying Aaron is weird as balls. >> Yeah. Well, he has his own >> Okay, now go into the pod. Sorry. >> Yeah. No. So then he was on a podcast and uh he thought he was doing something like I think he really felt like he everyone was going to like rally behind him and take his side because he started talking about how like like everyone only knew who she was because of him which like we knew who she was because of Secret Life. >> Yeah. like we like before Mormon Wives, there was an American teenager [laughter] and um and also he was like and she asked to have sex with someone like right after we got engaged, which like at least she asked. She was like, "Yeah, but I need to go." Did you Did you read the comments of who they thought it was? >> Yeah. Yeah. Well, um there's was two. One of them it was debunked cuz he was married. Yeah. The the first one people said was Theo James, which when I told my husband, he was like, "Who was that?" And then I showed him and he was like, "Oh, I know who that is." I was like, "Mhm." I was like, "Yeah, I would have like without like totally ruining his self-esteem." [laughter] Yeah. Theo James. Um, who? And then a lot of people thought like because they said Theo James, a lot of people in the comments were like, "Oh my god, this makes me feel so much better cuz I thought it was Theo Vaughn." Oh, okay. Who's the other one? [sighs] >> I I forgot. I looked him up. >> Was he cute? >> No, >> I mean I I I'm not the >> I know. No, you know, hot versus not. >> I know, but I don't think like like I don't think like generic white men are hot. >> Do you think Theo James is hot? >> No. >> Oh, I think he's hot. >> Um Well, I just think it's I mean, >> he's hotter than Aaron Rogers. >> I just think it's really funny. I think it's so funny. Well, and then also >> it's just like out of pocket >> and the internet all rallied around her too because again like at least she asked. >> It's the funniest thing. It's like you were engaged like 2 years ago actually. I think they were a co. Yeah, it was a while. Okay. I think they were a co couple and they like quarantine together. But to go on a podcast and think you ate by exposing your ex, which is so just don't do it. just don't do it. And she basically she came out winning and then that night because they re pre-recorded the Emmys that night she won. Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But um yeah, any commentary that you have on that? >> Um no, I just it made me like her more frankly. And he just he just continues to embarrass himself. I think he just needs to get away from microphones. Uh also everyone hated her Emmy look, but I thought I liked it. I thought it was funny. >> We'll get to it. And I did look at your vote on that and I was a little bit disappointed. Okay, next on the comments, um I'm going to read, so Michaela Matthews is leaving Secret Life of Mormon Wives, and I'll read her statement. I made my decision over a week ago after hearing some news that I will not be continuing the show at this moment. I've said it from the beginning of this that I'm not comfortable being a part of something that continues to platform behavior. I don't agree, especially given my own experience growing up in a home with multiple forms of abuse. There's no amount of money worth going against my morals to change the stance I've had since I first saw and heard the things that made me feel this strongly. And for me personally, continue to directly profit from this behavior feels wrong and unethical. It feels like a disservice to the children, everyone's healing, and millions people watching. This show has been a huge part of my life and has helped me provide for my family. I'm so grateful for the experience and will continue sharing my story and health and advocating for myself and others. This shouldn't be quote unquote relatable or entertainment in any way. Supporting an adult doesn't mean constantly making excuses for toxic behavior while giving unconditional sympathy and grace with no zeroable with no with zero accountability or change. I was in that enabling cycle for years and I'm not going to be a part of that again. Love you all. >> What do you think? Um, I think that like we're, how do I word it? Two things can be right. That's how I word it. I'm like, Michaela, you go for it. Stand on business. Get out. I think that like that is totally like the right thing for you. And I like it because she's always kind of like been like the one to stand on business. And on reality shows, you kind of like have to forgive and move forward a lot of the time. But at the other side, I'm like, it's hard for me not to have a little bit of sympathy or grace towards Taylor, Frankie, Paul just because I see so many people say that like they resonate and that this is like a form of like abuse and that she is finally getting out and seeing the other side. And so I see that portion, but I also think that like the show coming up, like we all kind of watched in real time, like the trial and everything. So I feel like we are kind of over it, but they're not. So it's just like it's hard. We're on different timelines. >> I know. I'm kind of with her cuz I do kind of feel like it gets to a point. I I get not condoning behavior and like wanting to separate yourself, but I do feel like she's done some kind of like petty mean girl stuff and I'm kind of like I just like I hope this is like this is you're done now. Like stop talking about her. Stop if you're like se separating yourself from everything. Like stop talking about her online. Focus on yourself then fine. >> Yeah. And I boy who cry wolf, right? We're not there. So, I do get all of their stances, but at the end of the day, it is her show. >> Yeah. >> Like, it's called all this, but it's her show. So, like, if you leave, that's fine, too, because like it really is her show. I also think it was interesting cuz I saw like M uh Leila and Macy might leave as well. And some people were like, okay, like Michaela leaving, but like Leila leaving, they don't think that she has like a lot to stand on leaving. And I'm just like, even if they all left, I still think like the show could be Taylor, which is crazy. >> Yeah. And plenty of other people will just want to slide in. >> Yeah. And >> Shina Shay, >> but I do think I mean, once again, if we see Dakota on our screens again though, like I mean, they should really just end the show and let them all have their therapy because it's all like a lot of [ __ ] up [ __ ] that they all deal with. Like the only one having to come up is is Whitney. >> Yeah. And I thought they were doing like other Mormon wives in other areas. So just like do those. >> Yeah. Yeah. The husband. I don't know. >> Yeah. Dad talk won't survive and it's gross. And also another thing that like I saw well when I went to her profile is that she's 26. Like girl's got her whole life. She literally just qualified to get her own insurance off her parents. Like she has one, she's living such a life before 26, but it also is like this is not going to define her. She has so much more life to have after this because she's only 26. >> Yeah. No, totally. >> So, um, anything else you have to say on that one? >> No, that's all. >> Okay. Have you seen the stuff about Ed Sheeran's tour? >> Oh, I have been. >> Okay. Why don't Why don't you report? >> Okay. So, uh, Mmore said a state a free Palenstein statement at a concert and Robert Craft owns the stadium of some of the one or some of the tours that um, Ed Sheeran is going to be touring at and Mammore was going to be with Ed Sheeran on the tour. And so, Robert Craft told Ed Sheeran that he that he Mammore is not allowed to do it because he said free Palestine. And so Ed Sheran and him talked and Ed Sheran was like, "I don't want to be political." And we know this because Mackmore had a [ __ ] incredible rebuttal where he like was like, "Hey, I'm not going to be on Ed Sheeran's tour because he wants to be a political and I think that it's really important to, you know, speak up about live genocide that we're witnessing, which was amazing." And >> Rachel, >> yes, Miss Rachel. And as of right before we were recording, I saw that everyone else on Ed Sheeran's tour dropped out in solidarity. I don't know about who everybody else is, but I saw Phineas, who is like Billy Isish's sibling/ really top producer. They dropped out, which is like kind of a shame because there's a lot of linkages, right? It's like I really like Ed Sheeran stuff, but like Ed Sheeran, your BFF with like Taylor, you guys could really like make a little bit more of an impact. >> Yeah, the shame is Ed Sheeran. >> But um Robert Craft, why is he so familiar? What's his >> football? He owns he's he like he he's like a piece of [ __ ] billionaire manga. >> Yeah. >> Bad guy. >> I know that. But like there's something familiar about him. Um every Well, now it's hard to find because he Oh, he he owned the New New England Patriots. >> Mhm. >> That's why I was like this name was very familiar. I hate when people just like who them making their little like that's a big stink. Like them making politicals over who can perform. It's like it's genocide. >> Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I feel like it should be easy. Well, and I again, I think Mmore's statement was so good because he like also spoke out against anti-semitism and made it very clear like this is about the people of Palestine and also all of us talking right now have a lot of privilege. Pink, uh, Ed Sheeran, you know, we're all like super privileged right now. So, yeah. Um, well, since we're on that controversy thing before we get to the Emmys, you want to bring up Sydney Sweeney? Oh my gosh. Okay. Yeah. So, Sydney Sweeney posed for a uh gambling a sports gambling company and the she like butt ass naked, like barely covering her areas. And the thing that's really interesting with City Sweeney is she's right-wing, not about feminism. And my thing is, it's one thing if you want to profit off the male gays, like if you want to have your only fans, if you want to do that stuff, but I don't feel like you get to cherrypick your feminism. And so, right now, she's like, "Why is everyone hating on me?" But is there she's gotten a lot of backlash, especially from female athletes, because it's like you're making choices about how you're using your sexuality. And it's again, well, people are like, "I'm a real athlete." She's not. And so she's posing with all the propaganda like footballs naked and really sexualiz. It's so funny. It's like if they book Sydney, everybody just wants her naked. Nobody wants her with clothes. Jeez. >> Yeah. Well, and she's like and she leans into it. And again, I don't think there's a problem with that, but I do feel like there's a problem with that when you're not like standing with other women and you're not st like in your dayto-day and the way you live your life. >> Yeah. Um, did you see Bea posted from Love Island? >> She even did it. She was like, "Scoot on over." I guess all I guess it's like if you're a woman in sports, a lot of people are doing >> Yeah. No, I have I have seen that like those. I didn't see Bea, though. That's great. >> Yeah. Well, she looks good. Bea's a beast out there. >> Yeah. [laughter] >> Um, okay. We're going to get into our Emmys. Let me pull up like her stories real quick and let's just get to the highlights. Um, let's just talk about Shayen Woodsley's outfit that you liked. I'm sorry, but I just feel like it was creative, >> creatively ugly. It had no fashion sense or direction or color scheme. >> I think that's what I liked. I felt like she looked fun. She looked like a >> The only thing she got away with it is because like I saw the picture of her holding the Emmy like last week and was like, "Yeah, like I asked to [ __ ] that guy and look like I still won." No, I'm looking at the outfit right now. The pants are not even tailored. I like him. You're going to wear this? I mean, I don't know if I could pull it off, but I think it's fun. Oh my god, this is giving the art teacher who just got a gift card to Nean Marcus. Um, okay. He also hated Nicole Kidman's, you know, award shows. I just feel like it was boring, >> you know, like there wasn't like I actually didn't really love like the clothing. This it was all really boring and men is hard to post about, so I didn't really post too many. But like L Roach, why does he keep dressing like this if he's a big stylist? like a little geisha. Yeah, I loved um the blue like super blue and had like red in it dress. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um that was my fave. Harry Hamlin. >> Girl, you got to show me pictures. >> Lisa Rena and Harry. >> Oh yeah. Yeah. I thought they were boring. >> He looked made me sad. Like he really aged a lot, but his pants are just overdone. These he had the same exact pants as Shayen Woodley. A lot of people were like 50/50 on Selena Gomez. >> I didn't like it. >> I don't know. I feel like she gets so much hate. I really like Florence's. Did you like that? >> I loved I feel like she looked like um >> a little fairy. >> I feel like she looked like Megora from Hercules. >> From Hercules. Marissa. She ate. >> Some people didn't like it. And yeah. Oh, the green one that Derek Huff one wore. That was awful. Um, I saw this Tik Tok that people were like, "Do people on Dancing with the Stars ever like not know the celebrity they're paired with?" And he actually commented and was like, "One time I was so tired I walked up to their PA, their personal assistant, and said, "Are you ready to do this?" >> That's so funny. >> Yeah. I didn't watch the Emmys cuz like I looked at like all the awards and stuff and the only thing I've seen is Traitors. I love love love a night of seven kingdoms but it was only nominated for one thing which was surprising. Um and it lost to the pit which everyone loves the pit so I wasn't surprised. You know what had a lot of stuff on there? Apple. >> Yeah. Which I've heard good things. I've heard like Playabus is good. Haven't watched that. >> That one got a lot of awards. >> I have never seen Paradise but I've been wanting to watch Paradise. >> I've seen nothing except for Ted Lasso. >> Is that on there? >> Really? Ted got nominated. >> No. No. It was Apple. >> Oh, I was like, "Oh my god." >> Sorry. I've seen no apple but Ted Lasso. >> Okay. Okay. Um Oh, and then I I think that's it. Unless you want to talk anything else about matcha. >> No, I think I'm ready to pallet cleanse. It's called put it in the group chat. And we're going to give just little scenarios and decide whether the situation deserves an immediate call, a voice note, a text, or absolutely no acknowledgement. >> I'm like reading the first one like call. Go ahead. Your ex texts happy birthday at midnight. >> I'm just going to text my friends. I'm just going to be like, "Oh my god, look who text me." What about you? >> No acknowledgement >> to them or to your friends. >> I feel like not it's not even worth acknowledging. >> It is. I'd be like, "Guess who text me?" Like even the next day. I wouldn't do it immediately. >> Yeah. Yeah. Um, you spot your friend's significant other on a dating app. >> Call. >> That's a call. Like, why would I >> FaceTime? >> And it would be like a call until they picked up. >> Yeah. >> Like voicemail, call, voicemail, call, voicemail, call, and then a text in between. Call me. Okay, go ahead. >> You reply all something really embarrassing in a work email. Um, uh, I was just gonna, you know, a text or a no acknowledgement to my friend. Like, I just live in the embarrassment alone. >> Oh my god. I'm going to call you immediately and be like, "Please, Priscilla, make me feel better about this. Help me. I am going to die." [laughter] You were the first person I would call. I'd be like, "Oh, that sucks, too." I'm like really bad at reassurance. Someone you haven't talked to since high school asked you to join an NLM. >> No acknowledgement. Maybe a maybe like I maybe I would text one of my high school friends and be like, "Cuess who just hit me up in Facebook Messenger." >> I have group texted because I did ask somebody if it was an accident or if they meant to and they said they meant to. Like I sent them a private text message and they were like, "No, it was me." >> They're like, "Oh." But like the last line was, "And I could be riding a Mercedes soon." And I was like, "Oh, >> well, you didn't even put effort in this." [laughter] >> Your turn. A person who ghosted you 6 months ago replies to your story with a heart eyee emoji. >> Voice note. [laughter] What about you? I feel like it would depend on like did they ghost me after a shitty date or like were we like a thing or did you they have to kill a moth for you? [laughter] >> No moths have been harmed in my Your ex's mom still comments beautiful girl on every photo you post. >> I feel like that's a text. I feel like I'd send a screenshot like why does she keep doing this? Not if like she does it all the time. I just go about my day. >> Yeah, I know. Acknowledge that. >> Um, do you still like follow like all your ex's parents and stuff? >> Yeah, some of them look at my stories still. I wonder if they listen. They would >> taste buddies. >> Yeah. Buy my merch. >> Tell your son to sell me. [laughter] >> Your partner's ex follows you. Like if it if it just happened, I'd call you. >> Yeah. Yeah. No, >> like if it just happened, I'd be like, "Oh my god." No. Same same. That's a call. That's a call. >> You accidentally like a photo from 2009 while stalking someone. >> I I'm going to need to call you again to be talked off a ledge because I'm dying inside. >> It'd be a voice note. And this has happened where I was in the restroom and my hand like slipped and it liked this girl's photo from so far back in the stalk archives and she was in high school for with me. It was so embarrassing. I actually kind of did it recently because I was looking it was this was thankfully with like close friends and I was looking for like an old picture and I couldn't find it and so then I just I just started liking all their other [ __ ] and I was like I stalked you guys and then I told them what really happened because because I just compensated by stalking them both so it seems less weird [laughter] even though they're like my friends. Um okay, a stranger tells you you have lipstick on your teeth after you've been talking all night. >> That's fine. >> I'm not even I don't even care. Throw on a date, babe. >> Sure. >> Your date says they don't really believe in tipping. >> Call. I'm calling on my way to the car. >> Not going on a second date. >> Or I'll voice note in the bathroom on the stall. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> Can you call me and pretend like I need to go? >> Can you pretend like you're an emergency? >> I would go to the bathroom, be it, talk to the server, be like, "Can you just charge me a penny so I can tip you or give me your Venmo? Just give cash." >> Yeah. Yeah. What about you? Last anymore? No. Is it? Oh, that's it. Oh my god. Guys, last day in the studio for a couple weeks, but we love you guys. Yeah. Episode 29: The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: If LaCroix was a Dairy Product
