The Aftertaste Podcast • Ep. 29

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: If LaCroix was a Dairy Product

Maddy checks in live from Florence, Italy (definitely not Florida), officially kicking off her month-long Italian stay. Between hauling luggage up and down hundreds of vertical Portofino staircases, hiding her aggressive multi-shot espresso habit from local baristas, and getting personally victimized by an unblended pink "milkshake" in Malta, the European travel adventures have officially begun.

Back in Arizona, Priscilla weathers an all-out Friday night family dining saga complete with emergency roadside pit stops, a neighbor's turtle-food handoff, and delicate chicken nugget negotiations that inevitably ended in a Happy Meal drive-thru surrender.

Appetizer: Italian Escapes & Friday Night Parenting Chaos

Maddy recaps her whirlwind arrival in Europe—from a quick 24-hour layover navigating the steep hills of Malta via local Bolt rides to reuniting with Rome’s timeless ruins in the quiet ease of the shoulder season. She also reveals her daily travel ritual: hopping between three separate cafes every morning to disguise the true extent of her quad-shot espresso habit from judgmental baristas.

Meanwhile, Priscilla unpacks a chaotic Scottsdale Friday night dinner attempt that derailed into toddler tantrums, a backseat puddle crisis, and trading gourmet sushi dreams for drive-thru chicken nuggets. On the bright side, she shares a sweet weekend baby shower featuring Aperol spritzes, mahjong debates, and the reality of navigating Arizona commute times.

Feed the Group Chat: Portofino Steaks, Florentine Gelato & Flower Child

In this week's culinary field notes, Maddy breaks down the highs and lows of traveling through the Mediterranean:

  • The Malta Milkshake Incident: An unblended, lukewarm cup of plain milk pumped with artificial bubblegum syrup that tasted "like if LaCroix was a dairy product."

  • Portofino Highs & Lows: Navigating steep luggage climbs and tourist-trap menus before indulging at the iconic Hotel Splendido—savoring lunch at La Terrazza and an unforgettable steak dinner at Splendido Grill where Elizabeth Taylor was once proposed to.

  • Florentine Staples: Savoring classic wood-fired pies at Gusta Pizza and discovering the greatest gelato of all time at Gelateria dei Neri: an elite creamy rice pudding flavor alongside ricotta pistachio.

  • The Flower Child Life Hack: Priscilla defends the ultimate budget takeout secret—ordering the $9 Flower Child steak kids' meal with cauliflower mac and cheese as a single dining hack, backed by a husband ready to defend her order at all costs.

Whine & Dine: Dave Portnoy’s Lukewarm Takes & Lefty Erasure

For Whine & Dine, Maddy sounds off on Dave Portnoy’s newest book release, Cancel Me If You Can, unpacking the irony of rich media moguls crying cancel culture while serving up the most lukewarm, sports-bar political commentary on the internet.

Priscilla takes the floor for left-handed representation everywhere, calling out the systematic neglect of lefties in public venues—from Topgolf bays missing left-handed club sets to the universal agony of smearing ink across greeting cards with standard pens.

Spill the Matcha: Chic Italian Weddings, Mormon Wives & DWTS Lore

The pop culture rundown is jam-packed this week:

  • Cait Bailey & Mario Carbone: Inside their ultra-chic Sicilian wedding in Palermo, featuring eight bespoke looks, celebrity guests, and dreams of a Béis x Carbone red gingham luggage line.

  • Presley Gerber: Remembering Cindy Crawford's son following his tragic passing in rehab, highlighting the vital importance of open mental health conversations and harm reduction.

  • The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Taylor Frankie Paul dramatically departs the franchise as cast alliances fracture across TikTok lives and drug test headlines.

  • The Traitors Season 3 Cast: A stacked, chaotic roster featuring Drag Race icon Bianca Del Rio, Love Island narrator Iain Stirling, and Southern Charm's charmingly chaotic Craig Conover.

  • Dancing with the Stars Week 1: Priscilla catches Maddy up on West Coast voting glitches, Connor Lovett's early exit, and deep-dive lore into Mark Ballas's generational ballroom dynasty.

Palate Cleanser: Second Date Vibe Check

To finish the table, the girls run through a rapid-fire second date litmus test: is going Dutch on the bill an instant deal-breaker? Does ordering an extravagant 3-Michelin-star meal qualify as green flag love-bombing? And what are the rules on ordering food without asking, marathon 6-hour dates, and refusing to split dessert?

Come hungry, leave fed, taste buddies! 🍸✨

Episode 29
The Aftertaste. [music] I'll have what she's spilling. The podcast for foodies and pop culture girly swirlies. [music] We're here to yap with their mouth full of caviar about what we're eating, obsessing over, and what's living rentree in our heads long after the plates have cleared. [music] From local bites and unhinged hot takes to friendships, gossip, and internet culture. These are the conversations that linger even after the last bite. Come hungry and ready for dessert. Happy hump day munch day taste buddies. We are coming to you from our remote studio which um I'm over here in Mio my Scottsdale and Maddie cow bellz I'm in Florida. I'm in Florence. I'm not in Florida. I'm in Florence Italy. >> I mean I would be a lot less jealous of you if you were in Florida. [laughter] Okay. So, tell me because like I we only really talked when you were in Malta on the phone because I was trying to like save some of like our girl time for the pod. So, like tell me about the boopping around and stuff so far. Oh my goodness. Okay, so I took a really long flight path, ended up in Malta, which I've never been to before. Super adorable little island. It's its own country actually near Sicily. And I was like, "Okay, I'm going to make a whole day out of it." I got in at like 8:00 a.m. Um, the host of my hotel was super nice. He's like, "I'll drive you around. Um, I'll take you to places." And they don't even >> I feel like that was like out of a movie >> instead of >> Yeah. And at first I was like, "Should I do that?" But he he was like super out of just like it feels like White Lotus. You're about to be scammed. >> Yeah. No, exactly. Or I'm like, "Yeah, is he taking me to an underground layer?" But no, he just he would just like drop me off in the middle of town and he's like, "You can text me if you need another ride." Which they have um Ubers, but they use um I think Bolt, which they use in uh Thailand as well. And it's everything's super cheap. Um all the food and everything was super cheap, too. But I actually got so tired and it was really hot there. So, and everything's uphill. So, walking around, usually that would be my jam, but after such a long flight at like 100 p.m. I was like, I'm going to take a nap and I woke up again at 700 p.m. And then I ended up just going back to sleep. And then I had to leave at like 4:00 a.m. to get to Rome. So, I saw a lot of Malta in a few hours and I like popped out to go get dinner, which I'll my whole food story I'll leave for feed the group chat, but then I went to Rome. >> You know, that's the whole point, right? Is like you're meeting somebody, so like get the jet lag out of the way for one day and then you're good for the rest of the trip. >> Exactly. Exactly. So, I'll have to check out more of Malta another time, but I got a nice little gist of it. Um, and then I met um somebody in Rome and we had a full day in Rome which was amazing. I've been to Rome a lot and it felt actually probably more than I've been anywhere in Italy and it just felt very familiar. Like I was like, "Oh, I've eaten there. Oh, I know that little spot over there. This, that, and that." And we like went to all the faves like um the Parthonon, the coliseum. Um, and it's just so awesome just like walking and all of a sudden there's ruins that you didn't notice last time and the weather's perfect. It's not busy at all. Like the coliseum was like empty. I guys, I know everyone on Instagram's like, "Euro summer, Euro Euro summer." No, Euro fall is where it's at. It's less people. It's not that hot. Like, it's amazing. Do they get rain like in the fall there? Because I know like Japan has a typhoon right now. So, past October definitely when it gets more close to winter, they're going to get like a little more rain than in summer, but not much. Like for this month, I think we have two days of rain. >> Okay. Okay. Not bad. Not bad. >> Are you doing like hotels? Are you doing like a villa? >> Villa. So, um, Rome was a hotel and then, um, we actually went to Portoino and that was a little villa. And then, um, right now in Florence, we're in a villa. We're doing a villa in Mont Muchino and a villa in I'm going to not say this right. I'm learning it. A lot of Italians have corrected me, but it's Polano Mar, which is like Bari Pulia area if people don't know that specific town. Um, and then a hotel in our last night in Rome. And how's your coffee? It's so good. Not only So, not only every morning I have a cappuccino and obviously I have a million espresso dopios throughout the day, but I found these like little to- go espressos. It's like almost like um when you get like little creamer packets and it comes with a tiny little baby straw and it like fits in your pocket just like an emergency espresso. Oh my god, if I could have that in the day all the time. Yeah, I'd be actually more addicted than I already am. But [laughter] you are a psychopath. Like if I could just >> espresso like it's so that's so bad. >> I know. It's actually pretty bad, too, because what I'll do is I don't want them to judge me for like my morning quad shot. So, I'll go to one place and get a cappuccino, and then I'll go to another place and get a dopio, and then I'll get another [laughter] place and get a single. >> What's an adopio? Double espresso. >> Oh, is it Italian word or is it a dopio here, too? >> Yeah, it is a dopio at Starbucks, but [laughter] it's >> Okay, maybe >> it's Italian word. >> Yeah. Um, anything else fun in the trip that you want to tell us? >> Um, oh my gosh. Okay, let me think. I definitely have a lot of fun in Feed the Group chat. I guess the only other thing is um one of the people we're with went to Oktoberfest and so we had their giant bag and I'm a carry-on only person and so we had our carryons their giant bag and Portoino similar to Chinuer or Posatano is like a tiny little fisherman town that's very vertical and it's beautiful because you have all these colorful picturesque homes but >> there's a lot of stairs. >> Yeah, [laughter] >> I love that. [gasps] Um there's a ton of stairs and also the service and like maps don't work as well. And so when we got to Portoino, our driver's like, "Portoino is a walking town. I can't drive you. You're going to have to like walk a lot." And so he drives us just to where he can drop us off. And he's like, "Your hotel's going to be way down there." And so I'm lugging like really heavy luggage and our luggage and stairs. And we're not staying at a hotel, so I don't have places I can do weights. I can only do my own little Pilates workout. So, I'm like, "Okay, at least I'm getting the workout in, but I'm huffing and puffing. I'm sweating. It's still pretty warm." Um, and then we get down there and then I like am looking at the instructions from the host or whatever. And he has a video and it says we're right there on the map, but the video shows that it's way back up where the driver dropped us off. So then I had to lug all the luggage back up and then we get there and it's five more flights of stairs up. [laughter] So I was so tired cuz I had to do like three trips. Going down was a lot easier, but it was a lot of stairs. Wait. Oh, okay. Yeah. What I would have I guess what I would have done is sent the more athletic one, you to jog down and then call me what the situation was. But why couldn't he take it down? because the car doesn't go down. >> Because he was going based on the map and so he thought that our hotel was down where the car couldn't go down. But actually, had I paid attention to the little video the host sent, I could have said, "Oh, no. It's actually right here." And we wouldn't have brought our luggage all the way up and down. [snorts] Oh, like I do have anxiety about that because like I know that you have to do like a carryon in a backpack and I like I'm just not a a light packer. Like my makeup bag alone >> I mean I don't have to bring dice in there. >> I don't have to bring a dice in there. >> But like my makeup bag is like >> I mean I guess I just have to invest in more like travel size things I like never do. I don't know. I'm like stressed. That's actually No, I know. That's actually what I did. Um, I'll actually link it on our Instagram or do a little video because I feel like I got the perfect travel size bag cuz I've tried a lot of them and like the cheap ones on Amazon and they leak or they're shitty, but I feel like I have a really good one. The other thing here in Italy, theiries are amazing. I'm going to bring you back so many little things like they have like the best toothpaste, the best cellulite cream you can't get in the US. Like you can get tininoan just like over the counter. It's amazing. Better than Mexico. I'd say different different vibes. Okay. Okay. Okay. Yeah. Over here I'm like holding it down. [laughter] [gasps] I'm doing nothing crazy. Um Okay. I went to my best friend's baby shower. It was so cute. It was like um can't wait to squeeze you theme, but like wasn't hardcore like lemon lemon cello. It was more like lemons meet love shack fancy. So it was like super cute. >> I know. It was nice being able to like drink with them just because like when my best friend had her like baby shower and like her like six day wedding for being Indian, I couldn't drink cuz I was pregnant then. And so like I got to have like appperal spritz with her cousins and everything like that and it was really fun. And um what was I going to say? Oh and then like at the very end towards dinner um not dinner it was lunch. Somebody was like do any of you guys play ma jang? And the way like my body like lit up. [laughter] It was like oh like my people. But it was like super duper funny because the girl that I was sitting with next to, her name's Jen and she's just like she's so funny. But like she's definitely just like in her own like thoughts if she thinks it's her thoughts. So like like we all were like where should we play? Where should we play? And she's like you guys should just go to my house. It's like 25 minutes from everywhere. I live really centrally located. And then so we're like where do you live? and she's like, I live like off the I17 in Joeax, which for people that aren't living in state, like that is on your way to Flagstaff. Like, it's going to carefree highway. And so, like, for me, I know cuz I go to my uncle's house a lot and that's like 30 minutes for me, which is not a big deal, 30 minutes. But the other person lives near like Global and it's like 45 minutes for her. And so she she just kept being like, "No, it only takes me 25 minutes to get there." And the girl's like, "No, like I ran a map. Like you just gave me your address. It's 40 minutes." And like she like would not comprehend that it was 40 minutes. So we didn't end up actually booking a majong. [laughter] I think we're going to go to Postinos. They're having like a little like wine and play. So, um, now that the weather is getting better, if anybody wants to play with us, come meet us in Postitos. >> Yay. I'm so excited. I hear they're updating their menu, too. >> Oh, yeah. I saw this article that they just got this chef in, right? He was like a long time Phoenix chef. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. They need to >> Yeah, we were just talking about like got to freshen up. >> Like I I do like the p like the brusquetta obviously like keep all that. Like that's fine cuz I think that's their signature. But I think having more than just sandwich, soup, and salad for lunch would be more fun for me. >> Fun fact, did you guys know that the first time I ever met Priscilla was at Pino? It's kind of special for us. >> Yep. And I was like, "Do you like Bravo?" [laughter] Pass. Pass. Um I do like their tuna there. It's really good. Their tuna is so good. There's no mayo in it. >> Um, oh, wait. I have to tell you one more story before we go on. Friday, we had the ultimate like like I know this will probably happen to every parent, but we had like the ultimate like worst like trying to go to dinner story. [laughter] So, I didn't even really want to go to dinner because by the time I got home, like I in the morning I did say like, "Hey, let's go to happy hour. Let's relax. Let's go to dinner before the weekend's busy and we're tired. And then when I got home, my husband looked so tired. I was so tired. And then like my son was just in such a funky mood. It just like happens sometimes. And then finally, my husband comes. He's like, "No, no, like I just really want to go to dinner. I don't even want to think about ordering. I don't want to do anything." So I'm like, "Okay, cool." Well, that morning we had talked about going to sushi. The whole reason I want to go to dinner is to try this brand new sushi restaurant like that's opened up around town with like Timaki hand rolls and everything like that. It was a mess trying to get my kid in the car. He was like I was like, "Do you have to pee?" And he's like, "No." And then he wanted to pick certain shoes. So we finally get in the car and then my husband's like now in a funk because he has a head headache. So he starts driving. He's like, "Where are we going? I don't feel like going to get sushi." But then like he won't pick where we're going to go and we're just aimlessly driving and there's like kind of tension kind of not. I'm like okay just like drive towards like I think it's like Hush public house or something or Carolyn go like towards that area. So then we're driving on the main road and then my h my son goes I have to pee and I'm like okay like can you wait because usually you can wait and he says yeah and then we go like one more light and he's like I really have to pee. I really really have to pee. So we turn into a neighborhood and I'm like okay you take him you show him how to pee outside. Like well I mean he knows how to pee outside but like you show him like how a man like secretly pees. So my husband like there was a bush but my husband just like opens the door like okay like we're going to pee here and all of a sudden I hear all this commotion and yelling and like I guess like he peed on my husband and on the car door. Oh my [laughter] gosh. [gasps] So then I like he's like do you have water? And I'm in his car and I'm like no there's no water up here. All the stuff. And so then he um he like finds a water bottle. There's a cooler in the back. He's cleaned it off. I get he's like, "Ever's fine." I get Ever to start sitting in his car seat. I buckle him up. He's getting ready to go, but I'm I'm buckled and I'm kind of like, you know, when you're like leaning reverse in the seat, leaning over to the back seat. Eric gets in the car, closes the door, and ever has the tantrum of a century. No, I needed you to wait until mom put her seatelt on till you got in the car. And he starts crying and balling. So then ever So then I just look at Eric like, "We're driving home. We're going home right now." So like in the meantime, like my neighbor's texting me because they're leaving town and they need to give me food for their turtle. So I was like, "We're on our way home now." D. We pull into our neighborhood and my son's like, "But what? I thought we were going to go eat. I want chicken nuggets. I thought we're going to go eat." And all of a sudden, we're like pulling in and my husband's like, "Let's just go. Let's just go." I'm like, "Well, we have to like I have to do this lettuce exchange. I have to go get the lettuce now." [laughter] So, >> food. >> Yeah. So, like we we have to park now. There's a dump truck coming into my neighborhood dropping off dirt to some other neighbors. I got to get the lettuce. It's a commotion. So, like we're all in moods now. I get back in the car and then Eric's like, "I'm sorry. I'm in a better mood now. Okay, let's just go. Let's do this. Let's just like go to Zips. It's like easy." I'm like, "Okay, great. I love a Zipperita. That's actually what a mom really needs right now. He can watch all the screen time he wants. Mom needs a drink." So, we're driving there and then right when we pull in to Zips, my husband is talking to my son and he's like, "I want chicken nuggets." and he makes the grave mistake and he goes, "I know, bud. We're going to have some right here. I promise they have chicken nuggets." And I look at him, I'm like, "Why did you just say that? I They don't have chicken nuggets here." So, I have to look up the menu, find a way of tenders, and I have to negotiate with my son in the car about chicken tenders so that I don't have a tantrum in the restaurant, and he agrees to eat chicken tenders like in the restaurant. That was 5 minutes. We're ready to go. I tell my husband to pull him out. He goes, "Oh, wait. His pants are wet. He did pee." I was like, "Get back in. I don't even want to go. I just want to go home. We're going home. I don't care. Like, go to a drive-thru. We're getting him chicken nuggets. I'm not dealing with this anymore. Like, I'm defeated. Like, the drink doesn't sound as good as it is. So, I'm like, "There's a McDonald's across the street. Let's go." He's like, "No." My h then my husband's like, "I'm not going to get McDonald's. No, no, no." I'm like, "Okay, then go to Chick-fil-A." We start go We start trying to turn left to go to Chick-fil-A. And my son sees McDonald's like, "Oh, there's a McDonald's over there." And then my husb like, "You know what? Fine. I'll just go to McDonald's." Like, "Oh, this is all this panic." Right as we're pulling into the drive-thru, my son had the nerve to say, he's three, guys. Chick-fil-A is okay. [laughter] [gasps] And I just go, "Ever? It's not the time. Just be happy with your Happy Meal." And he said, [laughter] he said, "Okay." And he went, he ate all his apples. He ate all Oh, he he had a freak out in the car because I ordered milk and he didn't want milk and I said, "It's okay. You don't have to have the milk." Gosh, >> it was just like not like, you know, when it's like not a good parenting day, it's just not a good parenting day. >> To me, it sounds like you guys had a lot of curve balls thrown at you and you kept trying. And I I think that's good parenting. You know, we went home. I didn't make him feel bad about it. We ate our happy meal and try to make it a very happy experience and then I took a shower [laughter] and I just cleansed my day away. >> There you go. A win's a win regulation. >> I didn't even pour a glass of wine. I just like read and just after he after he was dropped off in the bed, I just read and he slept until like 7:40 the next day, so he was just tired. It's fine. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> But yeah. Okay. Let's do the group chat. Let's get Oh, sorry. Go ahead. >> Oh, I was to say that sounds like a nightmare, but I think you guys handled it really well. >> Yeah. So, when I say like when I comment on your Instagram post, I'm like, "I'm so jealous. I miss you." Like, no, I would actually do a lot. Like, I would probably give away my left fingernail just to trade places with you. I wish you were here with me. [laughter] [gasps] But um let's be the group chat. Let's tell them about all the yummy things that you've been eating. >> Okay, I will tell them about the yummy things. But I do have uh a not so yummy story first. So, you know, I get to Malta, they have a lot of unique Maltese cuisine, and I definitely want to take advantage of that while I'm there. But also, it's just me. I'm not that hungry. And so, I'm like, okay, I'll just I just want to grab some quick things, you know? I'll I'll go to like a takeaway spot. And so I find a place nearby, there's a lot of people there. It looks traditional. All right. I go in and you know in the movie Elf when Buddy goes to New York and he gets a cup of coffee and he's like, "World's best cup of coffee." And it's like a shitty cup of coffee, but he's really excited about it. >> [snorts] >> So, >> I became Buddy the Elf in that I go to this place and it says world famous Malta milkshake. And I will preface this by saying I had Shake Shack at JFK during my layover and they forgot to put malt in my milkshake. And I was really excited about having a burger and a malted milkshake, but they forgot the malt and so it was just a regular milkshake. I didn't I drank it still, but I was a little disappointed. [snorts] And I'm like, >> we do need to do, >> wait, hold on, two things. We do need to do a blind taste test where I find out if malta is in the or malta if malt is in the milkshake, >> but like is malt and then before we get into the story, was malt invented in Malta? >> You know what? I should have looked that up cuz I was wondering the same thing and I just assumed that because then why would they have this world famous milkshake, you know? Um, but then I I wait for it and I look and I know I immediately made a mistake when I see her pull this hot pink bottle of syrup out and I'm like, "Oh, fuck." Like, "This is not going to be good." It didn't have any flavors. So, that's part of it is I guess I did I thought it was going to be like vanilla or something. And she gets this cup of milk and starts pumping in this syrup. Doesn't stir. There's no shake or stir. It's just pump. It's a milk pump. And she gives me this like lightly cold cup of milk with bubble gum syrup in it. [laughter] It tasted like And I hate I mean I hate artificial flavoring. I I don't really like plain milk very much either, let alone that's not cold and crispy. It tasted like if Lacroy was a dairy product. In what world would you want a shake, not even shaken nor stirred, an unmarinied, not blended milkshake? >> I I felt so scammed. >> Have you been to Wiener Circle? >> Okay, so um >> no, Weni Circle in Chicago. >> They're like really known for talking [ __ ] when you order. So, it's like, "Yo, [ __ ] give me a hot dog." And you and then they dish it back. So, anyways, um we'll watch that video later and then we'll we'll maybe we'll do a video of it. But, um they have a milk a chocolate milkshake and if you pay $20 for the chocolate milkshake, she shakes her titties in your face. >> Oh, wow. >> And I think that is like so much better than your world famous bubblegum make milk pump. Yeah, I'll take titties all day, [laughter] especially over It was so gross. And I didn't want to be rude. I didn't look up the etiquette on like stuff cuz normally >> like ate. It wasn't horrible. But I chugged half of it and I was actually grateful the syrup wasn't mixed in because >> it probably would have been worse, but it was really really bad. And then [snorts] um so I end up going to a different place and I get this like lentil pea stuffed I forgot what it's called but savory pastry that's delicious. I'm like okay that makes up for my weird milk experience. Then I take my long nap and I'm like oh I got to get some food. And same deal like I don't like there's a place that looks really good but it's like a whole tasting menu and I don't I don't have it in me to have a tasting menu. I know I'm about to go back to sleep. So, I'm like, I'll just try to find something easy takeaway. And I go to this place. It's an ice cream shop. And they have like takeaway stuff that looks pretty decent. And they have a chicken Caesar wrap. And I'm like, that kind of sounds really good, even though that's not authentic at all. And I'm like, whatever, dude. I'm going to get a chicken Caesar wrap. And he's like, do you want it heated? And I'm not even thinking. I'm still enough sleepy days. I'm like, sure. And so this chicken Caesar wrap is like wilted lettuce and like way too much Caesar. And the chicken maybe was canned chicken. So I really dropped [screaming] the ball. I really dropped the ball with that one. So I made two major Malta mistakes. >> Are malta people called maltis? >> Yes. Okay. So what is a traditional maltise dish? like a rabbit stew on pasta, which would be delicious to me. >> Okay, so not a milkshake. [laughter] >> No, but they I fell for the sign. >> No, they they got your ass and we should probably do that, too. [laughter] >> Yeah. Yeah, >> you should have vlogged that. That definitely needed a vlogging. >> I know. I really should have. And then the other mistake I actually made was in Portoino and that was there's not many restaurants well Portoino smell in general and there's not many restaurants that have a great reputation. If you look a lot of them are like thousands of two stars because it's just really expensive. One of them had a $50 mimosa. Um it's just really expensive mediocre food. >> Oh, it's like St. Bart's prices in Portoino. Okay, now I know. >> Oh yeah, totally. Totally. Um, and so but a lot of places are like, "If you get there early, they'll seat you. If you get there early, they'll seat you." And it's, again, it's it's not busy at all. It's shoulder season. So the top contenders, I go with my friend right at 7:00 and they're like, "Oh no, we're booked for the night. Oh no, we're booked for the night." And there's it's so small. There's not really a market that's open either. So it's not like we could go get girl dinner. And I'm like, "Shit." Like I messed up. I should have made a reservation. I have reservations for the whole rest of the trip. But uh the other thing is like the only way to make reservations was calling and when I every time I was like booking for the trip, it wasn't during hours because of the time difference. And so I just I thought except for the one that we made the next day, which I'll get into. But uh then I'm like, "Oh my gosh, we're we're hungry at this point. We did all those stairs." And so we're like, "All right, we're just going to go to one of the mediocre places, whatever." And actually, it ended up being decent. She got a really good ugly olio pasta. Um, I got a steak because I was nervous about pasta and it was still really good. Um, I ended up getting way better steak. >> That was a steak that I saw. >> Oh, okay. Cuz I saw a really good one. >> That was that was a really good steak. Um, so then the next day we ended up going to If you've heard the song Elizabeth Taylor by Taylor Swift where she says that view from Porto's on my mind. >> Yeah. [laughter] >> Taylor. >> Yes. Yeah. So, she references that hotel and that hotel is where Elizabeth Taylor was proposed to the first time and they actually have a pasta dish named after her there. It's an amazing hotel. It's like four grand a night minimum. Um, absolutely stunning. And they have two restaurants and we actually ended up going there for lunch and dinner and they were delicious. And so that steak you saw is what I had for dinner. And then um for lunch I had ravioli and everything was perfect. Like the service was amazing. That was like I would definitely go there if you're going to be in Portoino. >> Yeah, that's like my kind of people. Like who cares if we're going back to the same hotel in one day. If the food's good, we're going. >> Yeah. And it's also a beautiful walk. Like you have views the whole time. You could stop and go to the beach. Like it's amazing. And then um I'm back in Florence right now. So, um, I posted some of my favorite places that I've been to in Italy in general on our, uh, Instagram, and I'm going to be posting city specific ones cuz I'm here for a whole week. I'm in Tuscany for a week, uh, and then I'm in Pulya and and then also back in Rome. And so, here I went to some of my favorites already. One of them is Gusta Pizza, which it was like the first time I ever had like true Italian pizza, and it's so good. I ate the whole thing. Um, and then I my favorite gelato I had ever had is called gelato riia deri and I went last night and I had more and this is now again the best gelato I've ever had. It was a rice pudding gelato and it was so [ __ ] good. I >> rice pudding gelato. How How was the texture? >> Like rice pudding but like creamy and cold and delicious. It was so [ __ ] good. The other one I got was like a raakota pistachio and it was also amazing. But because the other one was so good, I was pissed I didn't get like an XL. Like the next I'm going to go there every day now and the next one I'm going to get is going to have to be an XL because oh my god, so good. [sighs and gasps] Maybe I'll take my son to get gelato today. >> Yes. Yeah, do it. [laughter] But what about you? >> Have to see the group chat. >> Mine's something crazy. I just had like a story with in. So like we like if we're getting takeout around the house, we really like to get flower child. And I used to be a flower child hater because I thought it was like more like hippie dippy whatever. But honestly, their kids meal, Maddie, you need to do their kids meal as a single woman living alone. Um, it's like $9 and they always give us like medium rare steak and two big sides. And so when I like called and ordered, I like put in the order and then I always get two kids meals and then Eric always gets this chicken yakisoba. Like it's a stir fry dish with a ton of vegetables and then it's with chicken thighs, not chicken breast. And it's so good. And so, um, I like Eric was I don't know what he was doing in the kitchen. Oh, he was sharpening his knives and I was on the couch ordering for us and I was just on the phone and I was being a people pleaser and I was just like, "Oh, you know what? Like, sorry, on one of the kids meals like, can I switch one the sides for this?" And then on the phone like it was taking a while and he was like, "I'm" He's like, "Oh, I'm sorry. My computer's just being funny. um just give me a second to like switch it. And then I like automatically like apologized back and I'm like, "Oh my god, I'm so sorry." Yeah, no worries at all. And my husband, the way he like turned and went and like was ready to spar with Flowerchild because he thought that they were mad at me was really cute. [laughter] Oh my gosh, that is so precious. Like it's just like little moments where you're like, you know, you were not expecting it and I was like, ooh, like mad at the delivery man for me. Yes. [laughter] >> Yeah. Basically the equival, [laughter] you know, don't eat a lot and want a kids meal at Flower Child. That's the way to go because I love >> totally going to do that. >> And we always get I think it's like a cauliflower mac and cheese and roasted broccoli. >> Delish. I think that's a great hack. Um, are you ready to whine and dine? >> Yes. Yes. Yes. And I know you >> I know you've been angry since before your flight started. So, why don't you go first? Go ahead, baby girl. Get to your wine and dine. Get to your [ __ ] And you know I Okay. He He deserves to be on that list this week, just so you know. >> Yes. Um, okay. So, my wine is of a person, which isn't usually my style, but Dave Portoi drives me absolutely bananas. This man has invented his entire personality around believing that he's the last person brave enough to have opinions that approximately 40 million people who are at Buffalo Wild Wings already have. Like you're not counterculture. You're a millionaire yelling into a screen in Nantucket. Literally, I was at the airport and I saw he had this new book out called Cancel Me If You Can, which is the funniest title ever because I need this man to learn what cancelled actually means. It doesn't mean you have a media company and millions of followers and a book published by Simon and Schustster. Just like you said, it makes sense that he's in this this week because with the whole Mmore thing, he's praising Robert Craft for quote unquote having a spine and keeping political speech that he considers offensive outside of a stadium. Mr. Cancel Me If You Can is like suddenly discovering that actually sometimes powerful people deciding you don't like their speech and removing them on their from your platform is fine. Also, the speech he's talking about is children in Gaza. But anyway, I guess cancel culture to Dave Portoi is when someone criticize him for saying something douchy. His cancel culture is when he gets pissed off when people kick him out of the restaurant for not letting him film his like pizza ratings. [laughter] >> Yeah, >> that's when he like gets his like little like tiny ego and he's like, I could have brought you all this business. I mean, okay, like he totally deserves it. He totally deserves to be like the weenie right now and that he is like the wine and diner. I do like it when he gossips by the sea sometimes. I forgot what it's called. It's like oh by the sea. Okay guys, like I agree with Maddie, but I'm a little hypocritical cuz like I do like a little tea by the sea and I do like his pitbull peaches. [laughter] >> But like is he is he cancelable? Yeah, because he always like plays the fence and he, you know, he's team Alex um Cooper on that whole thing. And well, yeah, you know, he is what the internet is, right? The internet now is not about being factual. It's what gets you views is a range bait, right? That's why I say when men like >> he Yeah. >> Do you think he t >> He's just It's just It's always like ew. I don't want to think about him wearing anything. I want to think about him fully clothed. He's very much like you can't say anything anymore, but then says literally everything he's thinking all the time. And speaking of what you're saying about him getting mad about not being able to film at a restaurant, his political opinions are the equivalent of a man arguing with a hostess cuz their table's not ready. He thinks he's has like these hot takes and it's just such lukewarm bro takes. He the way he justified voting for Trump. He's like, "Oh, the liberals are isolating the men and they just act so elitist." And it's like, "Bitch, you are the elites." Like, get out of here. >> He is He's the equivalent of the bro dog privilege. This is the guy that helps you out if you were in the frat. And if you were in the same frat, then you get a little leverage. You do a little line with me here, you get another leverage. You know, that's just what it is. Um, my wine is like a little bit more tame. >> Okay. Okay. Thank you for letting me >> I'm not getting heated. Italian heated. [laughter] >> Um, mine is just like left-handed things. So, I'm left-handed. And I got to thinking the other day, it's like the world caters for the gluten-free [laughter] >> the allergies. >> There's more on the menu for >> gluten-free. I'm safe. They do not cater. No, >> but I'm just saying like in the world, right? Like things are going to be listed for pescatarian things like that. Left-handed people. I looked it up. I think it's a little bit more, but it's like 10% of the population, but there's like never, if anything, if you go places for like left-handed people, like I went to Topgolf a couple weeks ago for work, and if one in every 10 person is left-handed, that means like one in every group has the chance to be left-handed. You guys have 300 bays, but you don't carry left-handed sets out your bays. And I just think it's weird. [laughter] Yeah, that's actually crazy. They definitely should accommodate that. >> Like back in the day, do you remember we were all in school and we all had to have like the right-handed desk and like all spiral notebooks are on the left side. But what's really irritating for me is pen companies. And this is where my wine like really originated is because like the only pen I like in this world is like the cheap ass big pen with a cap that's like blue or black. I like people are like look at my bullet point. Look at all this. Like I can't use that because my like it smears. It makes the pen. Like there's nothing in the world I hate more than writing a meaningful card to my friend for their baby shower, engagement, everything, and then having the wrong pen and it's smearing this like really nice thing that I wrote. >> That's >> on top of that, like I have hyperhydrosis, so I'm a little bit more like lubricated here. [laughter] >> You're you're doing like impressionist paintings as your card. [laughter] And that's I honestly think that's why I actually never really got into like big crafting. Like I was never really like really into art or anything like that. And maybe it's because I just didn't want to be put up with that [ __ ] >> Justice for lefties. I'll I'll become a better lefty ally as I am a Celiac ally. [gasps] >> Yeah. Yeah. You know, left-handed left voting, you know, like love the left. [laughter] >> Everything you own in a box to the left. >> Well, you know, one and 10's a law. You go in a group where you're like, "Oh my god, one of you guys are left-handed." >> It's like a big population of the world, actually. >> Really big population of the world. >> Totally. [laughter] >> So yeah, that's it. Let's just go to Spola Matcha because we have like a lot to recap. And then Mattalie. Mattalie. Maddie. >> Cute name. >> Mattalie. I'm Mattie in love. Um Maddie's got to go scadaddle around Italy. The After Taste podcast is brought to you by Amara and Associates. Can we just say finding professionals you actually like is rare. I'm going to go to Dance with the Stars last. Okay. Dude, have you looked at the wedding between Kate Bailey marrying Mario Carbone? >> Yes. And I I looked into that and so and they got married in Sicily. Polmo, right? >> Yeah. Like how cool is that wedding? [laughter] Like they she got to marry into the Carbone family and she was in her own right somebody. I like did a little research on her and she um she was like a publicist and they met like at his restaurant because she was dining there with her best friend Sheay Mitchell. I know. That's so fun. >> I wonder if he invited them. Oh, go ahead. >> No, I was just saying like Baze Carbone partnership like a little red line, a little Italian like a gingham line. >> Oh, that would >> be cute. >> I would sign up. >> Yes. >> Um I need new luggage too away. You need to improve. Just saying. I actually just my favorite luggage is like my Cal Pack that I got from TJ Maxx. >> Amazing. I love that. I I I literally don't even have a carry-on right now. I'm borrowing one because all of mine get destroyed. >> I just need a >> And have you seen John Summit's video of like his Ramoa? >> Yeah. Yeah. [laughter] And then he like lights it on fire. >> Also, he proposed Okay, wait. The wedding was so cool and also he proposed in Capri which Sophia's there right now. >> John Summit did Capri my one of my >> John proposed is the Mario Carbone. >> Oh, I was like John Summit like is getting married. [laughter] >> Okay. Okay. Wait, wait. Mario Carbone proposal. >> Okay. Yeah. >> Yeah. And >> yeah, he he proposed. I just Capri is like my other favorite city in the world. So, I just think that's so romantic and amazing. And I said Sophia Richie's there right now. I saw and she's eating at Locoa, which has the zucchini pasta that's so delicious that I also put on our Instagram. Let's make sure you guys are following our Instagram for all the Italy, right? >> Is she there with um Hillary Duff or was that a separate date that Sophia Richie was having? >> Oh, cuz I saw like they were hanging out together. Um Oh, >> fun. [cough] >> But back to the wedding. Did you see the reception? It was like this beautiful oval behind the architecture. It was gorgeous. And then >> yeah, stunning. >> She had like eight dresses. Um, which I really liked like this feather one that she had. And I don't know, I just thought like it was really she it was really chic. Like everything she did like the dresses were not overdone, but it had this like very [clears throat] vogue chicness to it. Yeah, it's definitely I actually I feel like Sophia Richie's South of France wedding is like one of the most beautiful weddings to me that I've seen. And then this also is like next one. So my second wedding definitely Italy. She'd be a trades life person like Sophia Richie for me. She's like the one person I really >> have on my list for like a trades life with because you get like Nicole Kidman as your in-laws. You get Joel um Joel Madden and then like on the other end is like Cameron Diaz and then you get um then you get like everybody from Capital Records and then Lionel Richie and then your best friend is therapist. So yeah, she's my idea. Um, so sad news. Presley Gerber. >> He passed away while he was in rehab from an overdose, which is like just the PSA here is that like we we're reporting this cuz it's pop culture and it's everywhere right now, but like with Hayden and everything, it's like at the very least everybody like there are fentinel testing strips. Mhm. You can get them on Amazon. like at the very least have those on hand like if you really like don't want to die. It's so sad too because his uh last public appearance was at a mental health focused event in Malibu where he spoke publicly about his struggles with addiction and mental health. And I think another reminder of that too, like along with testing is just keep going and keep trying to get better because the only other path to addiction is it's either get better or die. And so it's really sad. I'm sad for the whole family. >> Yeah, I work closely with people in addiction. So yeah, and it also like you know like had a lot of reflection on towards like me and like our career goals with Maddie. It's like for our podcast it's like strive for success not for fame because like fame is scary people like just care about like abundance more than fame. I feel like >> yeah I just want to pay my bills by talking about what I like. [laughter] >> Yeah. I don't want to be like famous. Okay. Next news is um Taylor Frankie Paul quits secret life of Mormon wives. >> I I literally leave the country for five minutes and there's no Mormon wives left. Like what is going on? >> Yes. So she does a statement. She says she's going to bow out and leave. But then right before like I talk to you, Michaela's like, "I'm not going to come back now just cuz she's gone." which is kind of interesting because last week when she was on the plane on the way to Dancing with the Stars, she did say that she left only because of Taylor Frankie Paul, but now she's not backing it and now she's saying no, it's how they handle the situation. It's a lot of other things, all this stuff. And so now it's either foot and mouth or I don't know. I That's the kind of mean girl [ __ ] that I'm talking about where I'm like, you just wanted to publicly shame her and then she did and then you just are like, oh no, I actually like don't want to do this. Like to me that's a little annoying regardless of like whether it's that she really thinks Taylor needs help in some way or like whatever the speculations are. I mean again like what we're talking about but like I don't know. I just it rubbed me the wrong way that like >> that's not actually >> that is true. I think that like I think that what Michaela did was like attent very attention headlining all this stuff. You know what I mean? And then have like the multiple story follow-ups. But I do think that like if provoked, they're allowed to say something. So I do think that like what Taylor said and Ila replying like, "What am I jealous of your eight hours of visitation?" Like you poked the bear, she was allowed to say that back. >> Yeah. So >> um but you know, like to bring it back like even in between us talking apparently she's failed multiple drug tests. Like >> this what I'm saying like you know like just call this call it raps. Maybe just make it you know like >> stop stop loving the drama and start just making it a fun reality show. >> Make it rich people watch chicken. Well, or maybe just cut this one. And again, if you want other Mormon wives, do different areas like go with the Gilbert or the California ones. Like they let these women heal or like what I'd like to see more like if they're going to like keep going is like I'd like to see more like they're always like break the fourth wall, but I'm like let's just break the fourth wall in their life. like let's show them like what they assign their assistants to do, >> things like that. Like what is making them successful and what's the team behind them that would be more like enticing to me than just this fabricated drama or like push narrative, you know? >> Yeah. for my girlies that have and gays and naysay and men who have read yester year. I feel like that's kind of um the plot of it is talking about how this trad like how she actually makes become successful and everyone behind it and I think that would be really interesting too. Also, we want the tips. >> Yes. Um, I'm not going to like go through and read like the entire cast, but they did drop the Traitor cast and I forget about it. Have you seen Traitors or not seen Traitor or is you're going to be your first time? This is going to be my first time, but I'm really excited because I feel like the cast is stacked. Like, I think this combination of people almost sounds like AI generated. It's awesome. I'm so excited to see Bianca Del Rio. Um, most of all, but and also E, what is his name? Ian Sterling, um, Whitney. Like, it's a great cast. Okay, but here's the thing is I personally think they should like take out like they should do a Traitors where it's like the challenge people and wait, Ian Sterling's on there. >> I totally like that one over my head. Like the guy from Love Island >> like the narrator. [laughter] >> Yeah. I think that's so fun. >> Yes. Um, they always get fun people. That's Mo Heens was on there. That's why she was so great. But I think they should do like the survivor people and the challenge people on one because I think there's like an unfair advantage with them being in there. Like either people gun for them too hard or something like that. And I think they should do it with more like ditzy people who aren't like who like this is their first time strategizing. I don't know. I think that more fun. >> But >> that makes sense to me. What I will want to tell the listeners that are like don't watch Southern Charm, but is going to watch Traitors is that like Craig Conover is going to be on there and Craig is like a handsome 6'4 man and he's incredibly charismatic, but don't fall for it, okay? He gets he gets he gets bad and he gets like a vein in his neck and he lies and he and that's the thing is that like charismatic people get away with it but people need to start holding him accountable and like he's a pathological liar and like people let him get away with so much because he's so sweet but if he had ugly privilege he would not get away with it. [laughter] >> Take this as a PSA. >> Yes. Um that's my PSA. Any other comments on the cast? >> Yeah, I I I I kind of said it, but like with Bianca Del Rio, like her entire brand is reading people for filth. So like putting her in a show where everyone has to lie to each other's faces. Like I don't even care if she is a traitor. I like need production to make her a traitor solely because I want to watch like this whole cast of people attempt to accuse her of lying and like she's just she'll like read them with and like unveil their deepest insecurities for breakfast. Like she's so funny and she'll just eat people up. I'm stoked. I personally would like to be a faithful and then brought in as a traitor because I don't know if I have it in me to make it all the way to the end and let it like I'm not that great of a liar. My eyes are like crazy. >> I stutter. I have really bad body language. Like I'm like short I'm a good short termer but not a long termer. So >> yeah. So, um, if you tap one of us from the podcast, just know like please, please, please, Faithful, [laughter] or else I'm going home. Or else I'm going home. [gasps] Um, >> all right. Um, do you want to get >> Huh? >> I was going to say, do you want to Dancing with the Stars? >> Yes, that's what we're going to do. I'm getting to my side notes that I have. >> Okay, I'm just going to do quick recaps of like what I have. Okay, first off, let's just let's just go let's just rip the bandit off. Conor Levit going home first. Sad. I was sad. Like Joe, if you're listening, I might owe you $40. I don't know. We never really bet, but like I might I might might. Like, we all thought he was going to go so far, but I didn't realize how unfair the voting was. like Connor went like okay so this is how the voting works if you're like on east if you're west coast you don't get to see it live if you're on east coast you see it live but the voting's all during the show then they eliminated last minute the online votes weren't working so you can only text and then um what else they did was um like Connor Levit went last and the voting ended so it made like so it only is a popularity contest and nothing more. I didn't know that like it. So, I feel like everybody should vote after like week one so we kind of know like their energy and stuff, you know? Anduring >> That's really unfair. >> During the voting, you didn't hear it cuz you were watching clips, but like during the voting, what was I think that they sent Connor home to is because all night they had to say everybody vote with a num their name and text except for if you're voting for Connor. Vote Connor. say Connor W or say Connor L. and if you just say Connor, then your vote will say like error. And they had to repeat that all night long. And I feel like that's part of the reason they sent one of the Connors home. >> I I could see that for sure. That seems so unfair. >> They're just like, "Fuck that." Okay, I'm going to go through the >> numbers or something. >> Yeah, please. Please >> cut in when you tell me which ones you've seen, okay? Okay, cuz I I don't have everything up here, but I just have like things that like cuz I was working during this time, but I like looked up. Okay, Savannah Bananas guy. He was so happy to be there. That's all. Like I loved it. Which I love that. I love that energy so much. >> Like all he wanted to do was make his mama proud. That's all. Okay. Taylor Hansen, did you watch that? >> Mhm. >> Okay. Like in the clips he looked like so uncomfortable like standing there, but then I was like, you know what? He's actually like kind of handsome. He still has like good style. Like he's kind of a hot nerdy dad next door. I see that. Yeah. But okay, Taylor Hansen's going to go a lot further than we think now that like I've seen it all because like these Hansen fans on the internet I'm seeing are going crazy. Oh, okay. Interesting. So context, guys. I've only watched clips and I still I still am a little wary about how I'm going to feel about watching a full like episode. I don't know. I'm not >> You have to from the beginning to kind of understand like how like they're obsessed with it. You kind of It's a buildup. It's a buildup. You kind of just let yourself build it up. Okay. >> All [snorts] right. All right. All right. I did it with Love Island. >> It's hard because you're in [ __ ] Italy. >> So, it's like it's not as easy to let you build it up. Okay. It's like annoying. >> Okay. Okay. [laughter] I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. You're missing the context. >> Like, okay. Like, one of the lure that like we were supposed to be discussing that me and my friend were texting about that you like totally just missed was that like there was an ad for Paris baguette. So, they did a whole Italian theme and it was like this whole thing for Paris baguette. >> Not uh for Paris, sorry, for French theme [laughter] for Paris baguette sponsoring. >> Oh, that's good. >> So, it was just like kind of cringe but kind of not. And so like we were getting people's opinions and that's the kind of stuff I need you to see. >> All right. Okay. I'll do better. >> No, but you need to see like the intro because now I'm going into Ezra French. I'm obsessed with him. >> I'm obsessed with him. >> Love so talented. >> I did say I did say I I had faith when we first were talking about the cast. >> Yeah, Connor. Love it. So chaotic. It was a lot of shake and all this stuff, but it was like hilarious. >> Okay. Harry Schum Jr. >> which I need to >> He's the Asian from um Glee. >> Oh yeah, he was great. >> He crushed it. I hope like he reps my Asians. I don't know if an Asian man has won before, so actually I'm going to like go for that. >> Okay, skipping over the women. These are the only ones I've gotten. is that like um I didn't like take notes on all of them, but um Julia Styles, I love her now. Like I always like Julia Styles, but I think that like the way she was trying to like stick it to Andy, like I'm I'm rooting for her, too. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. No, amazing. >> And Ezra. Okay. Don't you think Ezra and our Jesse that we know kind of like remind us of each other? Oh, I do see that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And then the last one. Okay, Sierra getting emotional. Oh my gosh. So sweet. Wait, wait. What did you think of her in general, her dancing? Cuz we were like, >> she's good. I think she has a lot of potential. I didn't know that she used to dance like 15 years ago. >> No. Yeah, me neither. I thought she was better than I mean I I thought she was going to be good, but I felt like she was even better than like I expected. >> Yeah. Like I thought she was going to be average. I didn't know she had any technique. [laughter] So now that she now that I know that she's actually going to take it serious, I do like that. Um, okay. And then the I saw Jenna Dewan. Of course it was good. But the last one I want to say is that like Mora Higgins, Mora Higgins crushed it. She's been working so hard. And I feel like Mark Ballas is the Oh, you also just have to like like now I'm like loving Mark Ballas. I have to go down a rabbit hole for him in the next episode for you. But Mark Ballas is like the best coach. Like everybody just loves him whenever they're with him. There's something like he just like brea like he has really good energy. Is Is he the one whose wife wrote co-wrote If I Were a Boy? >> Mhm. >> Yeah. I was I I was I was researching the lore. Okay. I did my homework almost fully. >> Okay. Okay. Okay. Wait. Then I'll just give you the lore now because like I was kind of like sat and strolling for a little. Okay. So, his wife and No. Okay. His mom apparently is like this big big big shot ballroom dancer. Her name is Shirley Ballas. And I don't know this like and and you wouldn't if you're new to this and all our listeners are a lot of them are new to this. There was another season that came out with Robert Irwin was like uh find the next pro dancer and they were finding like the next pro and he co-judged it with his mom. So I guess like the story is that like his mom was like a dancer and like married her partner and she got married like a really young age and then she went to go to the states. She was like from London and she went to the States to go train Mark Ball's dad and then like she went back to the States and then she like left Mark Ballas. Um she left her own husband to be with Mark Ballace's dad. But then when she like married him she kind of like realized that like oh this glitz and glam like but Mark's Mark was like Mark's family his grandfather invented like the weed eater. So they were like loaded, like they lived on this like estate and they were loaded. And then she had Mark and then they went back to London and she like raised Mark to be like this amazing dancer and she then later on like trained Julianne and Derek Huff and they came and lived with them for a little while while they trained. >> Oh, interesting. >> Yeah. And then she also trained like Daniela on the show who is I forget who. Oh, Daniellea is Dancing with Ezra. And so like I didn't realize that Dancing with the Stars was this really big like it's probably all by Mark's family. Who knows? But it was like this whole like nepo insensuous like deeper family rooted thing more than I ever thought. [laughter] >> Yeah. Yeah. No, that's what when I was like looking up cuz Priscilla had put like little peaks of the lore into the show notes. I was like, "Wow, this is very connected." >> Yeah. Yeah. I'm not even looking at the show notes because I was so in um I was I had to keep notes on the side guys for Dancing with the Stars. So, she didn't like [laughter] she didn't take up the whole page. But yeah. No, his mom like Oh, and then also like you don't watch it yet, but they even briefly mention their family in Gilmore Girls. Oh, yeah. Cuz Emily is like, "I love Shirley and Corky." And then she brings up Corky Jr., which is Mark Ballas. Oh, interesting. So, the they're like a big deal and we're just finding out. We're just a little peasants that just found out how big of a [ __ ] deal they are. And then he marries one of like the biggest writers who wrote her name is BC Jean who co-wrote If I Were a Boy >> Amaze. Life doesn't get much cooler for him at least. I thought he has a very fascinating cool life. >> Totally. >> Yeah. I knew nothing. >> I really love the story that he grew up in dance and like was groomed into dance to say and still was straight. I want people to take that as an example. He's straight and he married like an even more talented person than him. Like amazing. >> Love, love. >> Yes. Okay. Are you ready for our palette cleanser? >> Yes. I'm so excited. It looks so fun. >> Okay. So, this palette cleanser is in honor of Maddie telling us about our first date. We're going to just go and discuss if like these things in a second date pass the vibe check. Okay. So, I'll go I'll read them to you, Maddie. Okay. Splitting the bill. >> What am I your loser roommate? No. Are you kidding? >> Yeah. It's like going Dutch on the second date like already like [laughter] um >> I just feel like I I'm p personally I'm never going Dutch in a relationship like e and I'm not saying they have to pay all the time, but one of us is getting the bill or we're switching off. We're not going [ __ ] Dutch. We're adults. >> The only time you can go Dutch is like on an electricity bill. [laughter] >> Yeah. Yeah. [gasps] >> Like when you're young and living together. Okay. >> Um sex on a sex on the second date. >> I think that passes the vibe check for me. >> Yeah. I feel like also >> Okay. I thought about this in the shower today actually. Okay. sex on the second date if the dates are not in the same weekend. Okay. Like there has to be a little time in between my dates, you know? >> I like that. I like that to the one date. >> Yeah. Well, I I I'm also somebody that we need to be transparent about testing and history and what's going on. So, if that kills the vibe, then [snorts] >> you're not mature enough for me. >> Yeah. Yeah. I see like no herpes on the second date. >> Um, [snorts] letting them pick you up on the second date. >> Amazing. Thank you. Please, please. >> I hate driving. >> I'm like, I don't know if I want you to know my address yet. [laughter] I was like, you can send me an Uber. >> They'll still know your address. >> You're right. Okay. They'll probably They'll probably have Zillow in it, too. Like second day, an over-the-top extravagant dinner, like taking you to a three Michelin star. >> Yeah, at that point I'm definitely comfortable at moving a little fast. I think that's awesome. Love bomb me if you're love bombing me is good food. Absolutely. >> You're You're such a red flag. Love bomb me. >> Here's the thing. Worst case worst Well, here's the thing. Worst case, it doesn't go well. At least I had a [ __ ] Michelin meal with you. Mhm. Okay. They're scrolling. >> No, I'm down. I Food. Food is food, baby. [laughter] Um Um They're on their phone most of the time. >> No. No. Done. There's no third date. >> Yeah. You give me the impression that you don't want to be there. Okay. Um, second date, sharing entre. >> If we order two things, absolutely. Sharing one entree. No. >> Yeah. Correct. Correct. Correct. Okay. They buy dinner, but you buy the movie tickets. >> Um, I think that's fine to be honest. That's okay. I did that in my younger times. Like I didn't do it now like in my 30s or anything, but like back in the day like Yeah. Or like they bought dinner, so I bought a round of drinks when we went to the bar because like I just like they just bought me a really nice dinner, you know? >> Yeah. I think kind of like the etiquette with me is like if I ask you to dinner and I plan the dinner, I'm going to buy you dinner. If you do it, >> please don't say this on record because like if you do ever go with a man, that doesn't work that way. Just so you know, >> don't say that a man to dinner. >> I'm not asking. >> I'm just saying Jojo Seiwa split. So I'm just saying I don't like things on record. Okay. Jo I saw her on Dancing with the Star is why I'm thinking this. But she flipped. So I'm just saying let's not get things on record. I know. But okay. I just I think like reciprocity is cute. Especially I think it's sweet like okay I got dinner. You're getting activity. Like as long as it's like it just it's natural or organic, but like an itemized invoice or like Venmo each other, like kill me. Oh, I'm going to change this one that I wrote. Um, no kissing still, just a hug. Goodbye. Second date. >> It's not a You're not into me. You haven't pecked me once. >> Like, we haven't made nervous >> now. I'm like, oh my god. Do you have herpes? [laughter] >> Um, no. I'm definitely like not feeling good about myself, I guess. >> Okay. They order for you without asking. >> I mean, like, frankly, my own mother doesn't know me well enough to choose my pasta correctly, so I'm a little concerned. Like, >> okay. Okay. >> You have you must have been listening real well. >> I wouldn't be into that. Just so you know, on my second date, like I just feel like >> we're making a team decision. >> Okay. >> Yeah, I agree. >> The date lasts six or more hours on the second date. [laughter] >> That's not even a lesbian appetizer, so I think that's fine. >> Okay. [snorts] You offer to pay and they let you. We already know. >> Wait, what do you think about 6 hours as a straight person? I mean, it's fine if we're not No, I mean, like, if we're having a day, that's fine. If we're at the dinner table, no. >> I don't want to be the last one. [snorts] >> I don't want that >> that whole Yeah. Like, but if I'm at like a regular like even a steakhouse, I don't want to be the person that sits at the table for 6 hours. I really don't. Like, unless they've paced it that way, I don't want to be there. [laughter] Yeah. Um, you offer and they let you pay. >> Yeah, I probably buy. >> I think this again depends. >> It's a test. No, I think this again it depends again like if like they planned the dinner and then I offer to pay, then yeah, it's a test and you fail. But if I like if I plan the dinner and I'm like giving my card intentionally, that's like different. Um, they they pick the place you're going with no input from you. If it's good and amazing, hot, take charge. If it sucks, you've demonstrated confidence without competence. So, that's my least favorite genre. You failed an exam. >> Yeah, I I would say that they could because you're still in like your honeymoon phase of the relationship. So, that's like when the surprises are like allowed. So, I'm I'm all for that actually. Even if it's bad. >> Well, I don't know if like I guess there's like a I guess there's like a layer to it, right? Because like on the first date, like do I know that if do I know they had good taste? Like if it was bad and they said, "Oh my god, this is bad." But if they were there and they believe that it was a good place, then yes, it's over. Like if you're taking me on my Yeah, I'm not going to actually I was going to name drop something, but I wasn't. Um, but you're taking me, you know, to a place and then you actually with your whole chest think that this is the best place ever, like Olive Garden, then. Yeah. No. Okay. Yeah, we have a compatibility issue. Okay. Picks you up for the first day and is already holding your hand, walking you to the restaurant. >> Cute. Love it. >> Yeah, that's already a second date. You're trying to like push your PDA boundaries. Then you get married and you don't at all. >> I reached for the hand on the first date. >> Um I think a lot of people do, you know, or like when you were younger, like the over the pants hand job in the movie theaters. >> Oh [snorts] god. [laughter] Just kidding. I didn't do that. It's >> just like died inside. [laughter] Um okay. um ordering dessert that's separate. No sharing. The person doesn't share dessert. That's actually almost worse to me than going Dutch. Like that's diabolical. That's almost abusive. >> Yeah. It sets the tone for the relationship. There's a lot of things if you're not going to share your dessert with me. Like this is our whole life. if we're going to be eating together for one meal a day for 10,000 day. I don't know. Yeah. Um second date and it's like a really really like big concert like Harry Styles light me on [ __ ] fire. I barely even I already get over stem at a big concert. So like for a day you just don't want to talk to me. I don't know. I I think that like a big concert I actually wouldn't be like into it, but I would be kind of into like a nostalgic concert. >> Like the other day I saw it taking I saw Taking Back Sunday was going to perform here and I sent it to my husband and I was like, "Oo, I kind of want to go to Taking Back Sunday." And like if I had a date, be like, "Let's go to Taking Back Sunday." Like something nostalgic, I'd kind of be in. I also feel like it would have to be like I would be too, but I would I would need like dinner or something first because again I feel like we're not really going to we're trying to get to know each other. We're not really going to be talking. I don't know. Well, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Feed me before feed me. Yeah. Okay, Taste Buddies. Well, that's our episode for you.
