The Aftertaste. [music] I'll have what she's spilling. The podcast for foodies and pop culture girly swirlies. [music] We're here to yap with their mouth full of caviar about what we're eating, obsessing over, and what's living rentree in our heads long after the plates have cleared. [music] From local bites and unhinged hot takes to friendships, gossip, and internet culture. These are the conversations that linger even after the last bite. Come hungry and ready for dessert. Happy hump day munch day, taste buddies. I'm Priscilla and I we are recording remote today because Maddie is in Italy right now. Yes, I'm in Tesus and I'm kind of in the middle of nowhere. So, this is our third or fourth time trying to get the sound right and that's why we don't have video. Yeah. Um, honestly guys, we'll just like put a really cute picture of us behind the scenes and that'll be our video for the week. We're really sorry. It's our first time not doing video since we released video, actually. But I think having us as audio for the taste buddies is more important than not having us at all. Great. I agree. Well, how's everything over there in Italy? Um, how's the weather? You holding down the fort? My gosh. Yeah, the weather's been amazing. It's literally been 70 and sunny. Just like I said last week, I really feel like September, October is the best time to visit. We haven't had a rainy day yet. Also, one of the things I wanted to tell the taste buddies about that I'm not sure if they know is that the pharmacas here are the best. They have the best probiotics that taste delicious and work like magic. And they also have Marvis toothpaste. Do you know about Marvis toothpaste? Have we talked about it? Yeah, I think you brought this whole subject up last week. Was that last week? Did I No, don't cut it. Don't cut it. Well, I don't know. I don't know if you brought the toothpaste up, but you did bring in the pharmacy or something. Or maybe it was two weeks ago, [laughter] man. Well, anyway, I found a I I found a jackpot of Marvis, so I'm really excited about it. How much they sell Marvis over there? Like for a tube? $9. And it's like a lot in America. Okay. So, it's so funny because I didn't know Marvis until you told me about it and then I like started getting um curated like Instagram like let's make my uh bathroom guests feel like luxury and then they were putting like Marvis toothpaste in there. I'm like oh my god I'm so chic in a couple weeks. Yeah. And I found a whole bunch of minis so I can have travel chicness. I'm very excited. And what makes it special? They have really delicious flavors, but they also it the design is really nice and effective and it I mean it just works well. You your breath feels fresh all day, even with all the garlic. Um your breath feels nice even with all the garlic. We we are a garlic heavy household in this family. Oh yeah, a garlic breath is a green flag to me. I actually did make like Oh, I guess I I forgot that I did this, but I did make a really good linguini and clams this weekend and that was really garlic heavy. It was delicious. Um, [sighs] yeah. But guys, I'm in the dumps. I have a sick kid. He's been sick since Sunday. It has been crazy. So, he woke up at 2:30 in the morning on Sunday and was like, "I don't feel good. I don't feel good." So, we went in and laid in my bed, woke up the next day, was sick, I caved. We weren't allowed to watch Paw Patrol at home, only at school, but we've been watching it for the past 3 days. And so, he's been like high fever, sore throat. Um, he had 104 temperature the other day, so we had to call like the after hours hotline just to see if we can get him like if we need to go to the hospital cuz 104 to 105 is very scary. But since he wasn't lethargic or anything, they said just like keep at it with the fluids and then come in like the next day. So, I finally took him to the doctor's office today. Um, and his throat has been like hurting. Like last night, he I was up all night. Every time he coughed, he cried cuz his throat like probably felt like needles in them. He got like a mini mini it's like a dot that I saw it. He got a mini mini mini mini mini canker sore on his tongue and it was so sad. He's like, "My tongue hurts. It was dead center." And then I took him to the doctor and they told me she was like she looked in it and there was a medical student in it and like almost like it's not her fault because there was a medical student in it, but like you know like she was like a little bit like excited to like have a diagnosis to show the med student. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. [laughter] So, um my kid has um my kid has uh what is it called? I'm so sorry, guys. Okay. He has herp angia, but it's not a form of herpes. It's a sister of hand, foot, and mouth. And he has all these little cankers cankers in the back of his mouth, like in the throat area, like tonsil area. Um, so it's like contagious for little kids, not as bad for us, but like the [ __ ] This is a new thing I haven't heard of. Herpangia. I've never heard of that in my life. I definitely went right to herpes, but I knew that wasn't the case. But well, it's funny cuz that's what she told me. And um I figured that's what she told me and um she said that right away. But like I googled like him having little cankers when I was in the waiting room and it said that and I just think it's such a terrible name. Like especially if this is common for little kids then we should do that. Yeah. Herpa needs a rebrand. Yeah. to like really sick viral disease that's contagious but it's not hand foot and mouth and don't be awkward and make your kids think they have herpes. Yeah, that's take away the herp even just removing the age. Yeah, herp angia. [laughter]
Um but okay, so let's just go to more fun topics cuz I want to talk to you about this. Have you seen on Tik Tok this um iced coffee to an interview situation? Yes. And I have strong opinions. Okay, give me yours, Miss I partially know a little bit about HR. Yes, I do. I hire people. I've hired many people and fired people. I am very anti actually. I don't think you should bring anything to an interview except for a resume or if you for whatever reason need a presentation or something because I think it's distracting and I just think that you could have your iced coffee before or after like your treat your reward. It's an interview should be like 30 minutes. Yeah. It's just like I think it's it's people are like dress for the job that you want and I'm sorry but it doesn't give professional and if you're just like you bringing in your wet thing to the interview and then you're slurping in between it just doesn't feel like you took it serious and then like the Gen Z's are being seriously like offended and it's like well this is why corporate America sucks and stuff and it's like you guys don't want to put in any work your guys' boundaries are hard. Exactly. I think there's a difference between corporate norms being like you can't have tattoos and you can't have purple hair and corporate norms being like, "Yeah, don't bring your iced coffee to the interview, but you can bring it every other [ __ ] day." Like, just for this 30 minutes, you have to sacrifice a little bit. Um, yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, [laughter] it's just weird. It's like, why are they dying on the hill? Just leave your iced coffee in the car. [laughter] And it's like you want you want your hand to be free to give like a handshake. You know what I mean? And then you want your other hand to carry your resume and your padfogia or your purse. Yeah. Also, what if you spill it? Like what if you I would spill it. It's not even that. But it's like when you bring my phone in like you know what you're in the lobby waiting. You don't want to be slurping your coffee and stuff. It's different if they offer you a water. Take the water. That's the polite thing. But don't bring in extra stuff. Yeah. And you don't have coffee breath. There's so many things I don't understand. Okay. Well, what about Have you seen like this anti- blush trend? Yeah. And I don't get that either. I love blush. I want to look like someone said something filthy to me at a farmers market. I always want to and maybe I have blush blindness. I don't know. But I love to have some rosy cheeks. I want to look like I'm cold even though I live in Arizona. No, they're kind of just being fake as [ __ ] Okay. I've been doing anti- blush for years. What they're calling it is the fall like mauve. Like all the examples that I've seen is just an example of like a mauve, right? And that's what you do in the fall. You have like a soft you have more of like a warmer tone. And I've been doing this since I've been wearing makeup. Like I have an olive skin color and mauve looks the best on me. So yeah, like I have the she's seductive that people are saying is the anti-lush. Nobody's mentioned the OG Nars towels. That's an anti- blush. But I'm getting a little sick of people like reinventing the wheel was [ __ ] we're already doing. Yeah, Jenzie rebranding millennial stuff and acting like millennials are cheoogy for liking blush. Okay, so I had to go get my nails done really quickly cuz I had the layer of my gel peel off and my nail was super long. So I knew if I had to wait like any longer, my nail would break. So essentially, I just like went to a nail salon real quick by my house. It's not the one I usually go to, but I've gone there before and I got I think one of the owners doing my nails and he was just like a really funny guy. He kind of reminded me of my uncle in the sense. And so, you know, when they're filing like the top layer off and it's all dusty. Well, he got a Black & Decker, like a handheld vacuum, and he started vacuuming the area off with a whole handheld vacuum. And all of a sudden, he starts vacuuming my [laughter] nails. And I'm like, this is like in my head. I'm like, this is new.
And um then he vacuumed up my arm like [snorts] like up my wrist like he go all the way to the elbow but like I did not sign up for that. Um I mean overall very very very sweet man. It just makes me giggle when they when they pull out some tricks you're you've never seen before. Ezra like eating my words for whatever I said week one. I know last week I said that I was turned, but it was insane. It was insane. The way Daniela can pull off choreography like that and he dances like a pro and I am just captivated looking at them rewinding seeing every single take that I scroll by. Like hats off. They are my winners. Give them the mirror ball. They deserve it all. Um, al also lastly, I do want to say that like GMO like crushed it. I know Whitney really wants to go home cuz she's pregnant and she's tired, but like I love GMO's performance. I literally like clapped my hands after. It was so funny. Okay. Also, um I I still love Mora Higgins and I think there's a lot more to it. So, let's keep voting for Mora.
He's detailing your arm and hands like a car interior. Let's feed the group chat. I have so much to feed the group chat. I'm going to do a little bit of rapid fire since obviously I'm in Italy. I've been eating out a lot, but I want to give them the good spots. And I have a couple little fun anecdotes, too. So, first of all, I went to Bolognia, which is where my family's from. It's the homeland and it's the food capital of Italy. and we did a food tour and I was so excited because my food guide was Celiac. So, he was telling me all about Celiac in Italy and how different it is than the US. Um, but he still gave really good recommendations because Italy is the land or uh Bolognia specifically is the land of Torrellini. It's where torillini was allegedly invented though Modenna also claims it. And um one of the things that was so amazing that I think every taste buddy should try is we had a kache pepe torillini. So any kind of kaca pepe I would try this on. And he put balsamic vinegar on top. And I'm talking real balsamic vinegar. So like thick and delicious, not like super cut with actual vinegar, which I did a whole I got a whole lesson on what's real vinegar and what's not. Um, or even if you had like a glaze, I think it would be delicious. Oh my gosh, I don't know why I've never tried that, but I've had several meals since that I added balsamic vinegar to because it is so good. Modina, which is I guess the only place you can get real balsamic vinegar. We've learned a lot about like the way real Parmesan is only from certain areas and same with pushcido. And with the balsamic vinegar, it has to be for it to be completely legit balsamic vinegar. It has to be in this total special bottle. I have some that I'm going to bring back for you. I'll yay put a little clip of it or something since we don't have a video, but I had never tried it before and it is so delicious. Real balsamic vinegar means it's not cut with actually any added vinegar additives at all. And so it's a minimum 15-year process. So that's why it's actually so rare to have it because it, you know, people don't have that much time, but if they started a long time ago and a lot of these places are really in families, then um it works out. But man, it was so delish. Wait, I want some. It's so funny how like Europe has this like real verse real, right? Because it's like champagne balsamic vinegar. Are there any other like whips? Yes. Yeah. I know. Like yes as in you're going to tell me or yes as in a cliffhanger. No, no, no, no. Um [laughter] yes as in yes as I'm going to tell you. Well like par like parmesan like parmesan or reiano is like champagne and same with um pid pudo. Like it can't be pushto it has to be like it it has to be like a certain kind of ham if it's not from karma. Oh okay. So, if it's not from Parma, what does pushidto turn into? Capacola or like what? It's like some It's like called like sliced ham or something. Oh, all right. That was antilimatic. [laughter] I know. I know. All right. I do feel like a lot of people when they think about Italy, they don't think about going to Bolognia or Menna. And I think if you're a foodie, these are some of the best cities and the best meals. And actually, Modenna, I had the best of my entire life. I completely ordered it on accident. It was this tiny hole in the wall. They didn't speak any English. Um, and I She was asking me if I wanted two portions and I thought she was asking if we were going to split it in two. And so I said yes. And so I ordered eggplant parmesan and she goes, "It's too much. It's too much." And I'm like, "Oh, am I just like a fat American?" like that. I want to have like a little bit of that for the table and some eggplant and parmesan. And thank God I listened to her because all of a [clears throat] sudden there's two giant plates of the most pillowy delicious but with a parmesan heavy sauce. Oh my god, it it it was I was so full because then we also had gotten meatballs and we also got a whole other pasta and the portions were not when you think like European portions, people always say in Italy like the portions are way more small and not American. No, they're not. There was plenty of pasta. But it was so funny cuz I didn't know I was getting at all. I actually thought I ordered something completely different and I thought I ordered like a half portion and I ordered two giant plates. But it was the best yokeki of all of our lives. So, we clean those plates. I want to eat that because I still think about the I had in Little Italy and I know that this is going to be like 50 times better. And I'm not a big girly, but if the is done right, then I'm a girly. That's me, too. I I'm barely even a potato girly. So, like I said, I didn't even think I ordered it. And the place that was so cool about that, too, is it was all handwritten menu. They write it every day and there's like 10 things on it. It's all in Italian, so it's crossed out. And of course, that ended up being one of our best meals. And one of our other best meals where they also only spoke Italian. It was kind of like way outside the city of Florence. We still could walk there, but it was definitely not in the main area. And they just had no hospitality. And it was probably because we were American, but our server, he reminded me of the hot felon. Do you remember the hot felon? Mhm. Yeah, he had the he was like the guy with the teardrop, but he was sexy. Yeah, he was super sexy. Like neckts and like like smoldering eyes, but was also such a dick. Like threw the knives on the table, threw all the dishes, threw the bread, barely grunted, but it was everybody's favorite meal. I had the most insane truffle pasta of my life. Everything was handmade and al dente and it was [ __ ] incredible. And then the other thing that was really funny is that someone at the table ordered they just pointed because the menu was in Italian pointed to the locals and was like I'll just have whatever they're having and then it came and we were like oh I think it's tripe which like I'm fine with tripe but that a lot of people aren't and that was not defin that was definitely not what he wanted but then it turned out it wasn't tripe it was mushrooms. Oh I love tripe. So, I would have done it. And it's so good for you and has so much collagen. Like, tripe all day, baby. Wait, were are they like, was the restaurant known for bad service or he didn't like that you were American or what? I mean, it definitely was like a hole in the wall greasy spoon. Like, I think it could have been that we were American or it could have just been that this is like the neighborhood tutorial. Okay. Well, either way, I'm going back with you. Yeah. No, we're definitely It was so so so good. Um and then so then the other just like quick little ones I want to talk about, one of them, Auststeria del Panche. Um that was the best steak of my life that I had ever had in 2019. And it's the whole restaurant is known for truffles and it used to it's called the reason it's called Asteria del Tanche is because it's three benches in the whole restaurant. But they've gotten so successful and so big, they opened a whole second location that is a whole beautiful patio, rooftop seating. And I was like hyping this place up the whole time cuz again, it was like the best steak I'd ever had. And I don't know if it was because they're they expanded. I don't and they got big and it's been years. just I don't know if it's cuz I've had so much [ __ ] good food in the past 9 years or or 6 years or whatever I just said, but it was it it was it was delicious, but it definitely like wasn't even close to the memory of that I had. And I think it's a good lesson for everyone that you can't always chase the high or expect like that bite that you had to be just as good. Sometimes it will be, but you can't ever really replicate even the best meals because a lot of times what makes them the best isn't only the fact like it's like a mix between not expecting what you thought you were, you know, like we didn't when we were getting that service in that little hole in the wall, we were not expecting it to be one of our favorite most delicious meals. And then this one is like peak service. And I had talked it up like for years now. And like it was good, but like it definitely wasn't what I was describing. No, you just like all of you have to. It sucks, right? But the thing is is that if you hype anything up in your head, the second time is not going to be good. That's why I hate taking like my friends to places that I really love because it's like they haven't like boosted that nostalgia serotonin in them because they have these preconceived thoughts. So, it makes the food so much worse. It's like when Joe and I went to catch and it was some of the best sushi we ever had and then you and I went and we were like, "What the [ __ ] is this?" Actually, it was okay when we went. The last time you went, it was terrible. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I [laughter] just they're but their opening day or two they were really phenomenal. [laughter] Oh, did you see we're getting a Drake Hollywood? Um I just want Oh, I did just see that. Yeah, we'll have to look at the menu anyways. Okay, go on. Oh, no. And so I just want to finish up with two more spots and and I just feel like they kind of go along with the what you learn from traveling and recommendations because my recommendations were kind of a combination of recommendations I've gotten from locals or that I didn't get to go to that I had been recommended, places I have been that I loved and know and that were consistent and then a couple, you know, social media ones. And one of them um that I've been wanting to go forever is this Lajestra. And it is absolutely beautiful. It is such a vibe when you go in there. It is like and there were some huge winners in some of our meals. Like one of them, our appetizer, we had chicken liver pate. That was the best [ __ ] pate I've ever had. And then but then there was some big we Oh, and pushutto melon, which that is one of my favorite appetizers of all time. Anytime we see it on the menu, I get it. But then there were some big losers and like like I love oo but mine was a little cold and it wasn't as good as some that I've had in America. [snorts] So like stuff especially cuz I already feel guilty about Oo. Yeah, it was a little cold. That's so unforgiving. I know. I mean it was still good. like I inhald it. But like again, this is one of those places that if you actually look at like if you go on TikTok and someone's asking for the best recommendation in Florence, this place people go go over and over and over and over. And I think that also has to do with standards in the sense of again if you've never been to Italy and you go here and this is your first experience having pasta, you're like probably going to be like, "Wow, what the fuck?" But if you're like me and you go once or twice a year and you make your own Italian food and then you have this crazy expectation, you're like, "Oh, like again, like there was like the the chicken liver pate was amazing, but the rest was like again kind of fine." It's hard to just be like a refined palette these days cuz your expectations are so high. [laughter] I'm not saying you all of us. No, we talk about this all the time. Like it's a double-edged sword because I am so grateful for all the experiences I've had, but then you get a little snobby. I mean, now I'm I'm a proud balsamic vinegar snob, just like I'm an olive oil snob. These are these two hills that I'm going to be selective with now and I don't care. This is just that our last one, um, Natalino, I didn't realize when I booked it. It was on my recommendation list that I've made forever ago. Um, and it was freaking fantastic, but I I didn't realize that this was actually the first place I ever ate in Italy ever. I I had no idea. Sometimes if it's the first place you ever eat, maybe you you glamorize it, but this this place held up. This place was absolutely delicious still and was again, we're at a point, I feel like, where we're trying to pick what our favorite meals are and what's the best and it's like some of it is by margin. So, I'm really excited. next week to talk to you guys about Tuscanyany. This is more Florence specific um and Bolognia Moda of course, but Tuscany has already been such a different experience because it's a lot more farmtotable. It's everything in Italy is very regional. One of the things I'm most excited to talk about is they have this special kind of giant garlic and this uh certain pasta that uses it. So, I'm going to save it for next week. So, you guys better tune in. But I can't wait to hear it. Do they have like um like are they big in Italy with like elephant garlic? So that Okay. So I'll I will I'll share a little bit. Some some Well, some like some places like even Florence and Rome, they don't use as much garlic, but Tuscany specifically uses this special garlic you can only get in Tuscanyany that's an elephant garlic called Anglion. And it is [ __ ] amazing. And you will love it. Yeah. Cuz the only place that I find like Have you ever had the elephant garlic at Rokery? Yes. Amazing. Yeah, that's that's like the only place that I find that has it and it's amazing. For those I guess this is a feed the group chat moment for Rokery, but um for those of you who do not know, like they basically have like an open fire, would you say open kitchen um establishment? So everything you made is like open kitchen made right there. And they roast this huge elephant garlic and then they do like some baked brie and some large thick like bio toast. It is heavenly, guys. So good. [laughter] We should go back and get that soon. It is so good. Yeah. I mean, we love it there. We have no problems going there. We also really like like I know it's like super bougie, but it's worth it. Me and Hubs and like you can you should get in and out with us. We get the tomahawk surf and turf. [laughter] Oh yeah. Oh yeah. No, I'm down. [snorts]
We're we're we're a we're a little bit um bougie [laughter] and and this is why our standards are okay. Well, are you ready to whine and dine? I'm so ready. Why don't you kick us off since I just fed so much group chat? Maddie needs a break to recoup. She's really hoping I talk for a long time. [laughter] Um, I, you know, it's kind of like I'm sad about this wine and dine, but I think I'm switching from like a book girly to a Kindle girly.
Say more. Say more. I just like it was funny because my friend I just saw her baby and she was talking to me about how she's going to make the switch to the Kindle and her husband's trying to convince her not and I think that like reading is really about like what you're reading and how you're reading it. Like audio books, Kindle, physical book is all about like where you are in your life right now too. And for me, like I like reading really, really large books and I'm rereading this book and it has like 800 pages, but I just went off reading the original book like on a Kindle and I have like a Kindle stand setup. So like you guys, like what I have going on is so comfortable, so amazing. It's like this um bean bag little cushion thingy and then it clips on my Kindle and then I have the remote to click it and I'm just laying on my side. And I think what's like frustrating and is that like when you're reading at night um you have to have like a book light on [snorts] and the Kindle is so nice because it just does like black light and um like there's no blue light so it doesn't like hurt your eyes. But what I really like is that like you could really be in the most lazy form humanly possible and still read. Where when you're reading like a really heavy book, you really have to commit to the form you're sitting in. Like it's too much work, guys. I'm I'm really tired. [laughter] Like I can't like lounge on my side and like I can't click a button and flip the page. I'm sorry. Like I've merged into first world problems, but you know this is the stage I'm at. And my girlfriend like she was like, "Yeah, I'm feeding my kid. I don't want to like it's hard to hold a book up while I'm feeding my kid." So, I think it's like pre-baby is like books and then after baby is Kindle. No, that makes sense. I do really love physically holding a book. I told you I'm a sinner and that I like to fold the pages. Like, I love a book, but it's been so nice traveling to only bring a Kindle. It's way less space, the black light thing like you said and not getting the blue light pain. And I mean also someone This is actually not the best thing for me, but if someone recommends something, you can just [ __ ] download it right there. You don't need to wait for it or go to a store and get it. It's just at your fingertips. Yeah. King. Okay. So, like so many other things that we're going to hard sell you on is that like the battery life, Maddie, like isn't it like it lasts a lifetime? What's up with that? I don't know if I've ever charged it and I read a lot. I've charged it three times this year. [laughter] Like I have 40% like I went to New York in um August to see my family and u first week of August I still have 50% battery left and you guys know I read a lot so like that's insane there. and also Kindle unlimited. But the best thing, and you know this too, like for people that like to tandem. So tandem for me is like listening to an audio and then picking up your Kindle later. And what's really nice is your Kindle holds the spot of where you're reading. So when you open your Kindle, it's right there. So you can just hop back and forth like nobody's business. And the app is connected to your phone. So, let's say you're like, need to go change your tire real quick and you're like, I kind of want to do a quick reading. You can just pop out your phone. I don't know, guys. That's tough. I will just say that I don't know. It's just like and I'm a bad consumer cuz I buy the audio, I buy the Kindle, and then sometimes I buy the hard book, too. I just I just like to read in all different places all around my house. I feel that in my soul. Yeah. [sighs] Okay. So, what's your wine? Okay, I have a line about lines. So, again, I love going on a shoulder season because it's not very crowded, but inevitably if you want to go to museums or go to touristy spots, sometimes you're going to wait in lines. And my problem with lines, well, okay, I'm going to give the example. I didn't feed the group chat with this, but there's a place called Vivole Vivolei that we put on our Instagram and we actually collabed with them because they have the most amazing avocado you will ever have in your life. It was fantastic and it's a long line, but they haul ass. They do amazing. And you know, again, how long how long did you wait usually? Or are you going to get to that in the punch line? Maybe 15 minutes. Oh, no. Like maybe 15 minutes. I saw the lines. Okay. Okay. Go on. Yeah. No, they're ridiculous. But they again they like they really have a system. They It's a machine. Same with the Alantico Vaniano sandwiches. But anyway, it the thing that drives me crazy about lines, it's not the lines themselves. It's that there are two there are three kinds of people in lines. There are people that understand how to wait in lines. There are people trying to become my backpack. And then there's people that are leaving enough space for a Trader Joe's to be resurrected. Like I I can't stand when there are people who are riding your ass in line as if like if you move like that if if you don't move quick enough, they're going to like hop in front of you. And I can't stand when people are so laxidasical talking to each other, not paying attention to the line that they're leaving large gaps that the line hoppers are going to see as a vacancy. Wait, so there was a lot of there was a lot of like skippers. Yes. I saw these two ladies. Oh my gosh, they were so rude because they like everyone knew they were cutting and they were just like proud of it and making jokes about it because they went into some other people's giant gaps, which I think I've already whined about people cutting lines before. That's why I didn't include that. But I think part of what enables people that cut lines is people that leave giant ass gaps. And then but then also it is really annoying when people are just breathing down your neck too when it's like just can you just can we just be normal? I this is like one of the first skills we learn in kindergarten is how to wait in line. No, I totally agree because like have you ever been in like a car line where somebody's like or like been with somebody who's like, "Oh, well, like if I don't move now or if I move like in 10 minutes, we're still going to be in the same spot." Like, yeah. Yeah. Like I'm polite, but like in my brain, I'm backhanding you. [laughter] That's just how I feel. No. So, like it's it's annoying. I don't like it. I don't like it at all. I'm like, "Scoot the [ __ ] up, please." Like, all of us kind of want to scaddle all along. Or maybe I want to sit at the next spot. I don't know. [laughter]
Also, I do want to whine about one more thing, and it's about Jamba Juice. Um, Jamba Juice is closing like multiple locations, and so I've been going this Jamba Juice by my house for a long time. And I feel like they're so busy. Like every time I go in, like in the morning, they've got a lot of smoothies to make. I'm a big consumer of Jamba Juice. I I don't know why, but like when I grew up, guys, I it was like my childhood dream to work at Jamba Juice as a teenager.
I don't know why. I know. Precious. No, I I was a big Jamba Juice girl, too. Jamba Juice, Starbucks, and Pancake House. Those were like my holy trinity. Yeah. Like when I was like in elementary school, I just thought my first job was always going to be Jamba Juice. And then when I like turned 16, I was like, I don't want to work at Jamba Juice. But [laughter] but um I like I have a nostalgia of Jamba Juice cuz like somebody I know had passed away and he used to always call Rasmataz Ramad. So I don't know. Wait, wait. I have a nostalgia to Jamba Juice because my best friend that passed away. I our nickname for each other was Jamba and we don't even know why besides like the fact that we love Jamba Juice, but that was like that was an inside joke that lasted our entire lives. See, so like we love Jamba. And the fact that I went in and they were they had a sign up and they were like October 4th or October 2nd is going to be our last day open. I was sincerely devastated. And then I like Googled it and I guess they're like closing 160 stores in the US like this year. So there's going to be like a lot less. And then like the nail in the coffin is I get home and they're like I get an email and they're like you are now in a gold elite member to Jamba Juice cuz I [laughter] I go there so much that I've like gone up in the ranks and I have a lifetime like status there now and now it's closing down by my house. So, who gives an F what I am? That's so tragic. I guess you need to up your Starbucks status. I guess I don't I mean like No, there's a fine difference between wanting like a Starbucks than wanting a smoothie. But I will I mean there's other smoothie places by my house, so it's fine. But I'm just a little bit, you know, like this is my 1990s nostalgia like smoothie shop. It might not be like the number one best one. It just reminds me of home though. A Well, I'm sorry. No, we're okay. Um, are you ready to spill the matcha though? Cuz we've got some fun things to talk about. We do. We do. The After Taste podcast is brought to you by Amara and Associates. Okay, the first subject I have is because I put this in cuz I saw the original story and it [ __ ] broke my heart. But there's this like 81year-old guy or man and he's delivering groceries on like Instacart and food and Door Dash to pay for his wife's cancer. Yes, I saw that. And so he's on GoFundMe and he's like like I'm sorry but like the universe is so [ __ ] up. Like the way I like these elders should just be able to retire. It is so sad like the way we live. in the universe. America. [laughter] Yeah, America is [ __ ] up. Okay, guys. [ __ ] up. And so because like the person who posted, okay, so she lied. It was the daughter, but instead she said it was a neighbor because she didn't want to look like, oh, I'm posting my family on GoFundMe, which I like totally get. It is kind of like I don't want to look like a desperate person that wants money for my family, but like my mom has cancer and my dad should not be delivering and I can't I can't like I can't pay for this either. So, she posts it and I don't know like how they found out or whatever or who reported it, but GoFundMe um that GoFundMe got $750,000 and GoFundMe yanked it for going against their terms and services because she didn't use the right identity when she was saying she was making the GoFundMe account. Oh my god, that is horrific. Yeah, they got an email and said they refunding everybody back the $750,000 and then this poor poor daughter and makes this video with like she's she looks like maybe mid-30s like around her age with her parents behind and her mom is like in a silk like cap and she's like okay like I lied about this part but like my mom does have cancer, my dad is doing this and I just really hope GoFundMe does the right thing here Because like at the end of the day, this is what it's about, right? It's about getting people together to do the right thing to help people in times like this when society's [ __ ] us. We have to have our own by means of GoFundMe.
Yeah. Yeah. Is there a way to like get like get it back? [laughter] I I'm hoping if if we're um sorry, I'm just malfunctioned. if we raise enough outcry like I don't know. Yeah, I hear people are like still trying to donate to them. I don't know. I haven't seen that it's been put back up. There's other things, right? There's like angel donations, things like that. I don't know. As soon as I see it go back up, I want to donate even if like whatever little I can just because like that is devastating and heartbreaking. And as somebody whose family who's gone through like cancer many of times, like this is the last thing you want is being on the news for something so stupid. Yeah. No, that's ridiculous. Um, moving on to like a more chill topic. Um, John Mayer is going to do a sphere residency. What do you think about that? I don't I need to know. Do you like John Mayer? No. Not like you didn't. I don't know. I was like, who car who cares? The last thing anyone needs is 360 view of him. I don't I don't even know he was like still relevant. I actually, contrary to you, like John Mayer, what does he even sing? I Okay, well not really like he's not really relevant anymore. So like John Mayer really tours more with like Dead and Co and he's like a part of Dead and Co. But Dead and Co. I think did their last tour. Correct. These are they I heard their sphere concert was awesome. Yeah. Well, John Mayer is part of that and he's bfsed with Andy Cohen. So, I feel like there's a little bit something like about John Mayer that we don't even know. And like I love that he has like these little like quips where he has banged Sheena Sheay and then like denies it because it's like man you'll just sleep with anybody. [laughter] Like John is a hoe. Oh, he's a hoe. I I also I've heard I've this is all alleged, but I've allegedly heard from people that he's into poop stuff. He's What's hoop stuff? Poop with a P. Oh, [laughter] poop and pee. Oh, I'm grossed out now. Yeah. No, I mean, he lost me at Dear John, but that really [laughter] didn't You heard he's really into poop? Yep. That's what I heard. Allegedly. I don't want to get sued. And who who does he do these antics with? Again, this is all a legend. I don't know. But I just I I heard that this is a thing. I just find nothing more unsanitary and unsexy. [clears throat] Yeah, it's really the basic. Not to kink shame, but o little bit. [laughter] Anyways, um Well, but are you gonna go see him at this year? Well, I mean, I hope I have other friends that might enjoy it to go with I'm so sorry. I I thought that we were like coming on here to roast him and I didn't know that you liked it. No, I I had I put that on there because for something there's something about like cuz he is like, you know, play a playa and I just had this like inkling in myself that you hated him. Yeah, he's egg city. He's a man. like man. And like the thing is is that like I think he's pretty icky. Like the thing is is that like any type of dating headline, right? Because he was with Taylor Swift at one point, everything like that. I think he's pretty icky. But like when it [clears throat] rains, I just really like playing Gravity and Slow Dancing in a Burning Room. Like those two songs are in my favorites. [laughter]
I'm I'm going to say it with my chest. You know, just cuz my friend doesn't like something, it doesn't matter. You can you can yuck my yum. Listen, just because we have very similar food taste buds, we don't always agree. And I'm sure there's I mean, I like all kinds of artists. What? Okay, you know what? Speaking of Spill the Matcha, Taylor Swift's Encore came out and everyone hates it. The internet hates it. And the song they hate the most is Cleveland. And I think it's so catchy. Sure, it's not her best writing. My favorite writing from her is Torture Poets Department where she was super depressed and heartbroken cuz that's what got me through my divorce. But like, have you ever been super cringy in a crush or in love? Like that's what that song is. It's like a fun song when you have a new crush or are in love. It's It might be a little bit garbage, but it's fun. It's like some She just writes different genres. I mean, I saw someone on TikTok be like, you said it to me where he was like, "She's genre hopping. Who else is genre hopping like that?" And no one is, and I love that for her. Yeah. What he said is like in a couple years we're going to be like, "Oh my god, she's such a genius." Cuz she's going to be on her new genre and we're going to be like, "Oh my god, that's awesome." But what I do think it's funny about your commentary is that I actually was not prepared for you to like Cleveland, miss. I hate John Mayor, but I love Cleveland. [laughter] And [gasps] um I was not prepared for that just because when the last CD came out you were like am I crazy or is it like a little like is the CD not that good? And I was and I text you back and I was like yeah but like Elizabeth Taylor smacks and like these other few. And then all of a sudden you were like wait I kind of do like the album. No totally. No that's what happened cuz like originally I that's what I was upset cuz I love Torture Poets. I thought the writing was so good and then I was like, wait, this writing is really bad and I still don't think it's very good, but I think the it's catchy and I think it's still fun. And so I and and it took me a little bit to like listen to it. Though I will say I immediately liked these basic ass songs. Like I just think I just think they're fun. I think it's funny when she's like he what does she say? which she's like, "You just need to find the one person who thinks you're mostly insufferable or I I butchered it, but like I don't know. It feels like an SNL song and who cares?" Well, I just like how she is always putting out new albums. Like, she keeps the people on her toes and giving them new stuff. And that's more than a lot of people can say. Like, when's the last time we heard anything from Rihanna? Good point. you know, and Rihanna did like the the damn Super Bowl with like no album released in years. So, I mean, like, she keeps us on our toes. I'm happy with it. Um, oh, wait. Okay, so let's go over the VMA outfits cuz I do want to talk to you about the one thing we disagreed on, and that is Troy Savon. I actually do think that you are the only person that voted to like it. [laughter] I am on the results and you are the only person that voted that you like that outfit. Okay, hold on. I actually I don't know who this is. I need to look it up. Please hold up. [laughter] You don't know Troy Savon like the song. It's very like queer. He has like a queer national anthem song. What's I I might know the song and not him. Okay. Well, now I have to Google it because I forgot. Yeah, he looks like he looks like a like chic furry. Like what is that? I don't know. I don't know. He looks he honestly looks like a furry like a w a furry queer western guy. Yeah, which I think is a good look. I don't know. You're You're making me question some things. Well, cuz isn't the VMA is a kind of camp? I just think it's like No, no. The I I did a disclaimer before. I was like, just so you guys know, the VMA is is camp. Um, I hold on, I'm going to Google Troy Savon famous song. There is one song that I loved. Um, is it Rush? No, youth. My youth. Yeah, it's Youth. You'll have to listen to it later cuz without listening to it once, I can't drop that beat. [laughter] No worries. Um, no, it is camp. And like I went back and forth on Lisa's outfit, but one thing I did have to question is like what was the temperature that they had cuz I feel like everybody was dressed a little bit too warm. And maybe cuz I'm sitting in Arizona, but like Lisa's fur on red fur outfit coat. Oh yeah, yeah. Or a lot of people are like Belmont, he wore a Canadian tuxedo. It's like what was the temperature? I will say I think Taylor looked amazing. Um, yes. Honestly, greatest sparkly look she's done in a while. I thought the back was good. I thought she looked chic. She really like she looked a little too good for the VMAs. [laughter] Yeah. Yeah. But she was getting like a an award. I don't know. I tried to watch it. I don't know even where to find it. I like went the next day to kind of look it up and I couldn't find it. Yeah. I I watched it via Tik Tok. Lastly, did you watch Lisa, by the way? Oh, I watched it also. Okay. Well, I voted yes on Lisa Rena, but like you had to only look at her outfit and not her face. I think that's the case with Lisa Rena. It was like scaring me the contrast of like her spray tan and her bright hair. Yeah, it was just too much for me. But I did like her outfit. Um, lastly, we're going to get to Dancing with the Stars. Obviously, there's only one person I want to talk about, but did you watch it? I watched I I watched just the clips again. Does that mean I'm missing the context again? Yes, because like you're never going to be into it if you're going to see the clips. I'm sorry, but you're not. [laughter]
It's like going and being like, I watched the elimination. It's like I mean I could do this solo and talk to everybody about it, but you're never going to like you're never going to be like, "Oh, I like this person more just through the clips." Does that make sense? Like you're missing the whole more of it. Okay. Okay. Okay. I'm sorry. I'm sorry, Taste Buddies. I'm letting you down because Okay, there was some like background stuff that I saw that like made me like like some more things. For instance, like Taton Ali, it was so cute. So apparently like on her live she like had misspoke about like the days they're performing. I have faith that's that's what I'm going on and that's how that's how I felt about Bryce and Trinity and then I really got into it who are in Italy right now by the way. Ezra like eating my words for whatever I said week one. I know last week I said that I was turned but it was insane. It was insane the way Daniela can pull off choreography like that and he dances like a pro and I am just captivated looking at them rewinding seeing every single take that I scroll by. Like hats off. They are my winners. Give them the mirror ball. They deserve it all. Um al also lastly I do want to say that like GMO like crushed it. I know Whitney really wants to go home because she's pregnant and she's tired, but like I love GMO's performance. I literally like clapped my hands after. It was so funny. Oh, also, um I I still love Mora Higgins and I think there's a lot more to it. So, let's keep voting for Mora. All right, so we're just going to do a little game of would you rather. Would you rather show your co-workers your last five Google searches or the last five people you searched on Instagram? Google searches. Yeah, me too. Cuz I mean my Google searches are So I just saw the somebody on Tik Tok say that she did a week worth of the trial of like upgrading your meta services and it's just so incredibly creepy. It just tells you how many times people go to your story, how many times they go to your page. And it's like I don't want that level of active monitoring. We shouldn't give people like the advantage to see all this stuff for money. It's really creepy. I agree. I mean, that's why I think sharing location is even like too much. Like, I don't want to know when my friends are at the gynecologist unless they're telling me for something important. No, your location is okay because it is at least like um consensual. Like, this isn't consensual. You don't even know when your stuff is getting shared. Like, that's the annoying part. Yeah. Ew. Anyway, sorry. Did you answer the question? Um, oh, Google searches. I mean, my Google searches right now are like, how far is this Italian city? Like, what does this grape mean? Like, my Google searches are pretty pathetic. I don't feel like I Google anything. Yeah, I don't think I Google anything. Like, if anything, I'd Google If I Google something, it's like that would be embarrassing. It's because it was dumb. Like, [laughter]
how do I tip 20% of the bill? Yeah. or like I'm trying to find like a Reddit discussion, so I like Google and they put Reddit. My Google searches are a lot of like acatar theories right now. So yeah. Um, okay. Next question. Would you rather be ghosted after an incredible first date or go on five mediocre dates before they end it? I rather rip the bandage off and be ghosted off of the first date than waste my time. [laughter] Oh my gosh. I okay I would say that but then what if the five mediocre dates mean they were really short and but then I would also feel like a loser if they ended it before me when we had five mediocre first dates but I feel like I would never make it to five yeah know I wouldn't make it to two and mediocre is probably including very mediocre food so I'm not like enjoying any part of the state I'm biased right now cuz I had such an incredible first date recently I'm I'm I would have been so sad. So, I'm going to go I'm going to go mediocre.
We have two more. Uh, would you rather date someone who texts you all day but never calls or calls every night but is terrible at texting? I already have that. I have number two. Yeah, I know. I like Yeah, like my husband's the worst texter, but he does like to talk to me, so it's working out just fine. Yeah, I I my only thing is obviously schedules have to align, but like I'm not somebody that needs someone to text them all the time. I'm like excited to text somebody when I'm excited to talk to them. Um, but I I am a yapper. Like on this trip, for example, a FaceTime is like so exciting when I can squeeze it in cuz you miss people. Mhm. Yeah. And like texting is dandy and all, right? because it's like if I don't pick up the phone, like text me right after. But I think there's different flags of friendship and I do enjoy hearing my husband's voice. So yeah, that one. Yeah. And voice memos I feel like is like a kind of like number two as well. It's like a different level to have you ever had a voice memo from a man? I I may like a maybe a couple but not like a real one. Maybe. How do you not know? Like I feel like I've gotten I feel like I've gotten one like I feel like Joe sent me one on Instagram before probably trying to explain something. No, maybe not. I don't know. I don't think so, actually. Well, I don't know why. I never I never have. And my husband thought it was crazy that I voice memo. That's so funny. Okay. Yeah. No, I I don't know why I overthought that so much. I think you're right. I don't think that's a thing. Yeah. I mean like come to think of it like it would be kind of weird. It is for the ladies.
Okay. Would you rather date a I'm not a food person or an I don't like traveling person. Hate them both. I hate them. I don't want to date this person. I know it's really bad. It's really I know it's really bad because it's like does that mean that I travel and I still don't get to eat any good meals? Then I rather just have the food person. That's a Well, I would say well also that solo traveling compatible. Yeah, that's probably just like my first husband. [laughter] It's a trainer husband, starter husband. Yeah, like it's not like my now husband. It's just like my like interim. All right. Well, taste buddies, thank you so much for listening and being with us through uh our being remote and not having video and the technical difficulties. We love you. Please share us.
